Niagara Centre (french: Niagara-Centre; formerly Welland) is a federal electoral district in the Niagara Region of Ontario that has been represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1867 to 1988 and since 1997. Pelham, Ontario
The Town of Pelham (2016 population 17,110) is located in the centre of Niagara Region in Ontario, Canada. The town's southern boundary is formed by the Welland River, a meandering waterway that flows into the Niagara River. To the west is the township of West Lincoln, to the east the city of Welland and the city of Thorold, and to the north the city of St. Catharines and the town of Lincoln. North Pelham contains the picturesque Short Hills (see attractions). Two important creeks have their headwaters within Pelham; Coyle Creek, which flows south into the Welland River, and Twelve Mile creek, a spring-fed stream that flows north into Lake Ontario. Victor Railton
Samuel Victor Railton (28 February 1906 – 23 July 1996) was a Liberal party member of the House of Commons of Canada. He was born in Kelvin, Ontario and became a physician and surgeon by career. Railton studied medicine at the University of Toronto after graduation from Brantford Collegiate Institute. After establishing a medical practice at Port Colborne, Ontario, he served in the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps between 1940 and 1945. Following World War II, he became a surgeon in Welland, Ontario, and volunteered his skills in 1970 for the Nigerian Civil War. Allan Pietz
Allan Ernest Pietz (18 June 1925 – 24 April 2021) was a Progressive Conservative party member of the House of Commons of Canada. He was a businessman and dairy operator by career. He held a series of elected municipal offices in the former Crowland Township before he was elected mayor of Welland in 1965. He held office until 1978, when he did not run for re-election for mayor. He was succeeded by Eugene Stranges. In 1981, he was elected as a Niagara Regional Councillor from Welland. While holding office, he was the morning radio farm reporter for the local radio station CHOW-AM. Gilbert "Gib" Parent (July 25, 1935 – March 3, 2009) was a Canadian member of Parliament. He is best known in his role as speaker of the House of Commons of Canada between 1994 and 2001. Parent was born on July 25, 1935, in Mattawa, Ontario, and his janitor father, a Mattawa-born Metis, moved the young family to Welland, Ontario. He went to St. Joseph's College on a football scholarship, and earned a teaching certificate from the Ontario College of Education. Prior to his election to the House of Commons, he worked as a teacher and was vice-principal at Thorold Secondary School. Anthony "Tony" Tirabassi (born 30 October 1957) was a Liberal member of the House of Commons of Canada from 2000 to 2004. In the 2000 federal election he won the Niagara Centre riding in Ontario to become a member of the 37th Canadian Parliament; he succeeded the Liberal incumbent, retiring Speaker of the House Gilbert Parent, who had held the riding since its creation in 1988. John David Maloney
John David Maloney (born January 5, 1945) is a Canadian politician. He was a member of the House of Commons of Canada 1993 to 2008, and represented the riding of Welland and its antecedents for the Liberal Party, and subsequently served as mayor of Port Colborne from 2014 to 2018. Maloney has a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Diploma in Criminology from the University of Toronto, as well as a law degree from Osgoode Hall. He practiced law before entering political life. Maloney worked for the firm of Smith, Shaver, Selzer & McLuskie from 1972 to 1974, operated a private practice in Port Colborne from 1974 to 1976, and has been a partner in Maloney and Maloney from 1976 to the present. Malcolm Allen (born May 30, 1953) is a Canadian politician. He represented the riding of Welland in the House of Commons of Canada from 2008 to 2015 as a member of the New Democratic Party. He served as Critic for Agriculture and Agri-Food in the Shadow Cabinet of the Official Opposition (Canada). Early life and career Allen was born in Glasgow, Scotland and immigrated to Canada as a child in 1963. His father, a shipwright came over to Canada to work at the Collingwood shipyards. Vance Badawey
Vance M. Badawey (born October 5, 1964) is a Canadian politician who was elected to represent the riding of Niagara Centre in the House of Commons of Canada in the 2015 federal election. Badawey was first elected to the city council of Port Colborne in 1994, serving until 1997, at which point he was elected mayor. He retired from mayoral office in 2003, but sought another term in 2006, serving until 2014. Niagara Falls is a federal electoral district in Ontario, Canada, that has been represented in the House of Commons of Canada since 1953. It consists of the city of Niagara Falls and the towns of Niagara-on-the-Lake and Fort Erie. History The riding was created in 1952 from parts of Erie—Lincoln and Welland ridings. It consisted initially of the townships of Stamford, Willoughby and Bertie, the city of Niagara Falls, and the towns of Fort Erie, Chippawa and Crystal Beach in the county of Welland. In 1966, the towns of Fort Erie, Chippawa and Crystal Beach and the township of Stamford were excluded from the riding.
