Nguyễn Thị Ánh Viên
Nguyễn Thị Ánh Viên (born November 9, 1996 in Cần Thơ) is a national-record holding swimmer from Vietnam. She swam for Vietnam at the 2016 Olympics. At the 2014 Asian Games, she won Vietnam's first-ever medal in Swimming. She has been named Vietnam's Athlete of the Year in both 2013 and 2014. As of the end of 2014, she holds the Vietnam Records in 14 of 17 long course individual events. At the 2012 Olympics, she swam the 200 Backstroke and the 400 Individual Medley. Ánh Viên is a serving military officer with the rank of major. Swimming career She began swimming with private lessons given by her grandfather. At grade 5, Ánh Viên competed for the first time at the district level and easily beat her opponents. She was quickly spotted by coaches of a military team and soon joined the team. Backstroke
Backstroke or back crawl is one of the four Swimming (sport), swimming styles used in competitive events regulated by FINA, and the only one of these styles swum on the back. This swimming style has the advantage of easy breathing, but the disadvantage of swimmers not being able to see where they are going. It also has a different start from the other three competition swimming styles. The swimming style is similar to an ''upside down'' front crawl or freestyle. Both backstroke and front crawl are long-axis strokes. In individual medley backstroke is the second style swum; in the medley relay it is the first style swum. Aquatics at the 2011 Southeast Asian Games was held in Jakabaring Aquatic Center, Palembang, Indonesia for Swimming, Diving and Synchronized Swimming, Lumban Tirta Arena for Water Polo and Putri Island for Open Water Swimming. Swimming at the 2011 Southeast Asian Games was held in Palembang, Indonesia from 12 to 17 November 2011. The competition featured 38 events (19 male, 19 female) swum in a long course (50m) pool. This was the first games to be held since non-textile swimsuits were banned in January 2010. Women's water polo made its Southeast Asian Games debut in the 26th edition of the sporting event. The swimming competitions at the 2019 Southeast Asian Games in Manila are being held at the New Clark City Aquatics Center from 4 to 9 December 2019. It is one of four aquatic sports at the Games, along with diving, open water swimming, and water polo. Summary Singapore improved on its last SEA Games result and won over half the available gold medals, 23 out of 38, to be the first in swimming events again with a total of 37 medals. Swimming competitions at the 2015 Southeast Asian Games was held at the OCBC Aquatic Centre in the Singapore Sports Hub in Kallang, Singapore from 6 to 11 June 2015. Built only a year earlier, the venue is hosting the Southeast Asian Games for the first time. It was used to host the second Southeast Asian Swimming Championships in 2014 as a test bed for the organisers, with the 2015 Southeast Asian Games volunteers hired to also volunteer in the 2014 Swimming Championships to help in the familiarisation of the new venue. With swimming being a traditional gold mine for Singapore having been the country's strongest sport, there were high expectations for the squad to deliver another record haul of medals, especially given that Singapore is the host country. The 9th Asian Swimming Championships was held 15–25 November 2012 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. It was the second time that Dubai hosted the Championships; the city previously hosted in 2004. The 10th Asian Swimming Championships will be held in 2016 in Japan.
