__NOTOC__ Ngarkat is a locality in the Australian state of South Australia located in the south-east of the state at the border with the state of Victoria in both the Murray Mallee and the Limestone Coast regions about south east of the state capital of Adelaide. Its boundaries were created firstly in August 1999 for the part in the Southern Mallee District Council followed by the part in the Tatiara District Council during March 2000 and finally by the part in the Coorong District Council during August 2000. Its name is derived from the Ngarkat Conservation Park. The principal land use within the locality is conservation with the majority of the land being located in the Ngarkat Conservation Park with the exception of a parcel of land between the Ngarkat Highway and the Victorian border within the Tatiara District Council. Its name and boundaries for the locality were assigned in March 2000 for the portion within the Tatiara District Council while the portion within the Coorong District Council was added in August 2000. Makin’s name is derived from the cadastral unit of the Hundred of Makin which was named after James Bain Makin (1855-1933), a pastoralist who lived in the vicinity of what is now the hundred. MacKillop is a single-member electoral district for the South Australian House of Assembly. It was named in 1991 after Sister Mary MacKillop who served the local area, and later became the first Australian to be canonised as a Roman Catholic saint. The 2016 Australian census was the 17th national population census held in Australia. The census was officially conducted with effect on Tuesday, 9 August 2016. Ngarkat Conservation Park
Ngarkat Conservation Park is a protected area located in South Australia's south-eastern corner about south east of the Adelaide city centre. The conservation park was proclaimed in 1979 "to conserve the mallee heath habitat of the 90 Mile Desert". On 27 May 2004, the following conservation parks which adjoined the boundaries of the Ngarkat Conservation Park were incorporated into the conservation park and then abolished - Mount Rescue Conservation Park, Mount Shaugh Conservation Park and Scorpion Springs Conservation Park. Tintinara is a town located in the Regions of South Australia#Murray and Mallee, Murray and Mallee region of the South East of South Australia. The town is situated on the Dukes Highway and the Adelaide-Melbourne railway line.
