Ngaraard
Ngaraard is the eighth state of the Republic of Palau, and was originally named Kerradel. History Ngaraard's history can be divided into four eras corresponding to Spanish, German and Japanese domination up to World War II. Spanish colonization During the Spanish era between the 16th century and 1899 a priest named Father Luis lived in Elab teaching Christianity. However, the people from Ngaraard did not accept Christianity, so he went to Melekeok to Chief Reklai, but no one there accepted it either, so he left for Ngchesar. On his way to Ngchesar, he became lost and fell ill. Chief Reklai heard about Father Luis so he sent people to look for him. They found Father Luis very sick, and the Melekeokians cared for him until he died. He was buried crosswise, unlike everyone else at the Uudes burial ground. German possession During the German era, the Germans passed laws that Palauans must work to grow various plants, those refusing would be sent to Ngebuked for imprisonment. Th ... Ulimang
The village of Ulimang is where the Ngaraard State Office (Ngaraard Branch) is located. ''Note: Another state office branch is located in Meketii, Koror.'' Ngaraard Elementary school is located here. Ulimang's coast is an orange, sandy beach, and a small, high dock reaching out into the ocean. There is a large, red, public resting house near the dock. The villages of Ngesang in Elab are located north of this village. To the west is Ngebuked and to the south is Ngkeklau. How to get to Ulimang is to go north on the compact road and when you see a sign that says Ngebuked, go down that road and turn right. Ngarchelong
Ngarchelong is a state in Palau. Ngarchelong is at the northernmost tip of the island of Babeldaob. Only the state of Kayangel is farther north. Demography The population of the state was 316 in the 2015 census and median age was 37.2 years. The official languages of the state are Palauan and English. Uongerchetei is the title of the traditional high chief from the state. The state has a population of slightly under 320 people, making it the seventh most populated of Palau's sixteen states, although it is ranked thirteenth in land (with only about 10 square kilometers). The village of Mengellang serves as the state capital, and lies toward the south of the state. Mengellang and Ollei are the state's main population centers. Elab
Elab (Chelab) is a village in the state of Ngaraard, north of the villages of Ngebuked and Ulimang. It is the home to Ngaraard's only private Christian (Protestant) high school, ''Bethania Girl's High School'' in Ngesang, a small portion of Elab village. In Ngesang, there is a Catholic church located here and a beautiful, white and shady beach, with rock outcroppings. On the other side of the outcroppings, there is a long beach that runs to the border of Choll Chol (Choll) is a village at the northern end of Ngaraard State in Palau. Ngesang
Ngesang is a small portion of the village of Elab Elab (Chelab) is a village in the state of Ngaraard, north of the villages of Ngebuked and Ulimang. It is the home to Ngaraard's only private Christian (Protestant) high school, ''Bethania Girl's High School'' in Ngesang, a small portion of Ela ... is an area where most of Elab's inhabitants live. It is also the location of Ngaraard's Bethania High School for girls. Ngesang is located on the eastern shore of Ngaraard State. It has shady beaches canopied with large trees. Ngebuked
Ngebuked is a village on the west coast of Ngaraard State, Palau, where the Chief of Ngaraard, Maderangebuked is from. It has many stone pathways, ruins and graves scattered all over the surrounding hamlet. Its ruins consist of multi-leveled platforms where clans and families lived. At the center of the ancient site is the Bai ra Ngeruau, a large high platform where a ''bai'', or men's meeting house, stood. The village even has a man-made channel from the sea for easy fishing and transportation access in ancient times. Today, Ngebuked has a small population, because most of its inhabitants now live in the State of Koror. Ngebuked now has easy access to the newly made compact road. Ngardmau
Ngardmau is one of Palau's sixteen states and is located on the west side of Babeldaob between the states of Ngaraard and Ngeremlengui. Geography The total area of Ngardmau is . At the time of the 2015 census, 185 people lived in the state. There were 46 households situated in three hamlets: Ngetbong, Ngerutoi and Urdmau. The hamlets have no visible boundaries, but instead form one settlement. Ngardmau is located on the northwest coast of Babeldaob and includes the long drainage basins of the Diongradid and the Irur Rivers. Ngardmau is bordered on the south by Ngeremlengui and on the east by Ngiwal and Ngaraard. The coast is lined with a thick fringe of mangroves. In the interior, rolling hills rise to the highest ground in Palau. Near the upper reaches of the Diongradid is a large waterfall. Choll
Chol (Choll) is a village at the northern end of Ngaraard State in Palau. This village consists of a large, long, beach that runs along its entire east coast. The village has a series of ancient paths and platforms, similar to the rest of the villages in Ngaraard. There is also a large man-made channel that connects the village to the sea on the western coast. At the center of the village, along the compact road, there is a small marketplace with benches where one can purchase some village refreshments. Geography The village of Choll is located directly adjacent to the village of Ngriil in Ngarchelong State. Choll has a small population, surrounded by dense forest and steep hills. Ngiwal
Ngiwal is one of the sixteen states of Palau. It has a population of 282 (census 2015) and an area of 26 km2 On June 21, 2018, Japan ambassador Toshiyuki Yamada gave Japan's multipurpose center to Ngiwal. Geography Ngiwal is situated between Melekeok and Ngaraard on the north central east coast of Babeldaob Island. Ngiwal extends from the coast to the Rael Kedam and includes the drainage of the Ngeredekuu River. The Ngeredekuu has its headwaters on the forested east flanks of the Rael Kedam and flows through a large northwest to southeast trending valley. A coastal ridge lies between the Ngeredekuu Valley and a broad sandy plain along the coast. World War I
