James Hynes
James Hynes (born August 23, 1955) is an American novelist. Biography Hynes was born in Okemos, Michigan,''Contemporary Authors Online'', Thomson Gale, 2004. and grew up in Big Rapids, Michigan. He currently resides in Austin, Texas, where he has taught creative writing at the University of Texas. He has also taught at the Iowa Writers' Workshop, the University of Michigan, Miami University, and Grinnell College. Hynes received a B.A. in philosophy from the University of Michigan and an M.F.A. from the Iowa Writers' Workshop at the University of Iowa. His first novel, ''The Wild Colonial Boy,'' deals with terrorism in Northern Ireland. Hynes' three subsequent books, ''Publish and Perish,'' ''The Lecturer's Tale'' and ''Kings of Infinite Space,'' combine satire and horror. His most recent novel, ''Next'', was published in 2010. Believer Book Award is an American literary award presented yearly by '' The Believer'' magazine to novels and story collections, nonfiction books or essay collections, poetry collections, and, beginning in 2021 (awarding to books published in 2020), works of graphic narrative the magazine's editors thought were the "strongest and most under-appreciated" of the year. ''The Believer'' is an American bimonthly magazine of interviews, essays, and reviews, founded by the writers Heidi Julavits, Vendela Vida, and Ed Park in 2003. The magazine is a five-time finalist for the National Magazine Award. Between 2003 and 2015, ''The Believer'' was published by McSweeney's, the independent press founded in 1998 by Dave Eggers. Eggers designed ''The Believer'' original design template. Park left ''The Believer'' in 2011, with Julavits and Vida continuing to serve as editors. In 2017, the magazine found a new home, moving from McSweeney's to the Beverly Rogers, Carol C. Harter Black Mountain Institute, an international literary center at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
