Newtownshandrum GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in the small village of Newtownshandrum in County Cork, Ireland. The club, situated in half a parish of about 800 people, was founded in 1896 and is almost exclusively concerned with the game of hurling. In senior hurling Newtownshandrum compete annually in the Cork Senior Club Hurling Championship, which they have won four times as of 2009. The club, one of the few senior teams from the Avondhu division in the northern part of the county, also competes in various other championships in all grades within Cork. Overview The oldest piece of evidence which shows the existence of hurling in Newtownshandrum comes in the form of a medal inscribed 'Newtown Hurling Club 1896'. An old ballad is the first record of a Newtownshandrum hurling game played in nearby Milford. Sarsfield's GAA (Cork)
Sarsfields GAA is a hurling club is based in the Riverstown and Glanmire area of County Cork. The club plays in the Imokilly GAA, Imokilly division of Cork GAA. They have won six County Championships, 1951, 1957, 2008, 2010, 2012 and 2014. They have also won three Minor County Championships, 2007, 2008 and 2014. The club derives its name for the Irish Jacobite and soldier Patrick Sarsfield, 1st Earl of Lucan, Patrick Sarsfield, 1st Earl of Lucan. Jerry O'Connor
Jerry O'Connor (born 25 January 1979) is an Irish hurler who played as a midfielder for the Cork senior team. He is regarded as one of the greatest players of his generation. O'Connor made his first appearance for the team during the 2000 championship and was a regular member of the starting fifteen until his retirement following the conclusion of the 2011 championship. During that time he won two All-Ireland medals, four Munster medals and three All-Star awards. At club level O'Connor is an All-Ireland medalist with Newtownshandrum. In addition to this he has also won three Munster medals and four county championship medals. His twin brother Ben O'Connor and his younger sister Paula O'Connor also won All-Ireland medals with Cork in hurling and camogie respectively. Pat Mulcahy
Pat Mulcahy (born 25 August 1975) is an Irish hurler who played as a Full back for the Cork senior team. Mulcahy made his first appearance for the team during the 1997 championship and was a regular member of the starting fifteen until his retirement almost a decade later. During that time he won two All-Ireland winners' medal, four Munster winners' medals and one All-Star award. He ended up as an All-Ireland runner-up on two occasions. At club level Mulcahy is an All-Ireland medalist with Newtownshandrum. In addition to this he has also won three Munster winners' medals and five county club championship winners' medals. In retirement from inter-county hurling Mulcahy became involved in team management and coaching. In 2011 he was appointed manager of the Cork Institute of Technology senior hurling team. Cork Under-21 Hurling Championship
Cork Premier Under-21 A Hurling Championship (currently known for sponsorship reasons as the ''Evening Echo'' Cork County Premier Under-21 A Hurling Championship) is an annual hurling competition organised by the Cork County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association since 1973 for the top tier under-21 hurling teams in the county of Cork in Ireland. The 2009 Cork Senior Hurling Championship was the 121st staging of the Cork Senior Hurling Championship since its establishment by the Cork County Board in 1887. The draw for the 2009 opening round fixtures took place at the County Convention in December 2008. The championship began on 2 May 2009 and ended on 11 October 2009. The 2005 Cork Senior Hurling Championship was the 117th staging of the Cork Senior Hurling Championship since its establishment by the Cork County Board in 1887. The draw for the 2005 fixtures took place at the Cork Convention on 12 December 2004. The championship began on 27 May 2005 ended on 16 October 2005.
