Newsjack
''Newsjack'' was a British satirical sketch show which was broadcast on BBC Radio 4 Extra between 2009 and 2021. It was hosted by Miles Jupp (2009-Mar 2011), Justin Edwards (Sep 2011-2013), Romesh Ranganathan (2014), Nish Kumar (2015-2016), Angela Barnes (2017-2018) and Kiri Pritchard-McLean (2019-2021). It was first broadcast on 4 June 2009. The series was notable for having an "Open door" policy on writing, advertising itself as "the scrapbook sketch show written entirely by the Great British public" meaning that unsolicited writers without contract to the BBC could send in material. The show was designed to give new writers an opportunity to get material broadcast. It was hoped by the people behind the show that it would be a modern version of ''Week Ending'', an earlier sketch show which also accepted material the same way. Jess Robinson (born 1982/1983) is an English comedy actress, singer, impressionist, voice artist and comedian. Early life Robinson was born in Edgware, London, in a non-religious Jewish family, the daughter of a piano teacher and artist, and granddaughter of the jazz pianist, Jules Ruben. She grew up in Aldbury, Hertfordshire. Her mother is a teacher and her father was an artist. She attended the Tring Park School for the Performing Arts. Nishant Kumar (born 1985) is a British stand-up comedian and television presenter. He became known as the host of satirical comedy ''The Mash Report'', now known as '' Late Night Mash''. BBC Radio 4 Extra
BBC Radio 4 Extra (formerly BBC Radio 7) is a British digital radio station from the BBC, broadcasting archived repeats of comedy, drama and documentary programmes nationally, 24 hours a day. It is the sister station of BBC Radio 4 and the principal broadcaster of the BBC's spoken-word archive, and as a result the majority of its programming originates from that archive. It also broadcasts extended and companion programmes to those broadcast on Radio 4, and provides a "catch-up" service for certain programmes. The station launched in December 2002 as BBC 7, broadcasting a mix of archive comedy, drama and current children's radio. Romesh Ranganathan
Jonathan Romesh Ranganathan (born 27 March 1978), is an English actor and comedian. He is known for his deadpan and often self-deprecating comedy. Ranganathan has made numerous appearances on television comedy panel shows, and in 2016 he co-presented '' It's Not Rocket Science'' on ITV, alongside Rachel Riley and Ben Miller. He has also been a regular panellist on '' The Apprentice: You're Fired!'', '' Play to the Whistle'', and ''The Museum of Curiosity''. Angela Barnes
Angela Barnes (born 9 November 1976) is an English stand-up comedian, mostly known for her appearances on ''Mock the Week''. Early life Barnes was born in Sidcup, London and brought up in Maidstone, Kent. She went to Invicta Grammar School then, in 1996, the University of Sussex in Brighton. Barnes had repeated ear infections as a child, resulting in hearing loss. She wears hearing aids. Comedy career As a fan of comedy, Barnes ran comedy nights in Brighton. In the summer of 2008, her father died, who was an important influence on her comedy and had always encouraged her to become a comedian. Kiri Pritchard-McLean
Kiri Louise Pritchard-McLean (born 1986) is a Welsh comedian and writer. She has performed for several consecutive years at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and won five Chortle Awards. Career Pritchard-McLean is the director and writer for sketch group Gein's Family Giftshop who were nominated for Best Newcomer in 2014 for the Edinburgh Comedy Award. As a sketch group they were also nominated for Chortle Awards in 2015. She took her debut show ''Hysterical Woman'' to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2016. Pippa Evans (born June 1982) is a British comedian, known for her work in character and improvisational comedy. Early life and education Evans attended Notting Hill and Ealing High School, an independent school for girls, where she was head girl. She studied Drama and Theatre Arts at Birmingham University.
