Newport Village Historic District
Newport Village Historic District is a neighborhood in Boardman, Ohio. The neighborhood is bordered by the City of Youngstown, Ohio to the north and east, Glenwood Avenue to the west, and Forest Glen Estates Historic District to the south. Newport Village is known for its quaint tree-lined residential streets and early twentieth century Tudor revival and colonial revival architecture. History First developed in the mid-1920s, Newport Village was one of Youngstown's first automobile oriented suburbs. The neighborhood mainly attracted the city's upper-middle class who was looking to move to quieter and more suburban neighborhoods outside of the City of Youngstown. Unlike Youngstown's previous middle class neighborhoods, Newport Village could not be accessed by streetcars, only by automobiles. Boardman, Ohio
Boardman Township is one of the fourteen townships of Mahoning County, Ohio, United States. The population was 40,213 at the 2020 census. A suburb directly south of Youngstown, it is the second largest municipality in the Youngstown–Warren metropolitan area and is a major retail hub for the region. The township is contiguous with the census-designated place of Boardman, Ohio as designated by the U.S. Census Bureau. Tudor Revival
Tudor Revival architecture (also known as mock Tudor in the UK) first manifested itself in domestic architecture in the United Kingdom in the latter half of the 19th century. Based on revival of aspects that were perceived as Tudor architecture, in reality it usually took the style of English vernacular architecture of the Middle Ages that had survived into the Tudor period. The style later became an influence elsewhere, especially the British colonies. For example, in New Zealand, the architect Francis Petre adapted the style for the local climate. The Colonial Revival architectural style seeks to revive elements of American colonial architecture. The beginnings of the Colonial Revival style are often attributed to the Centennial Exhibition of 1876, which reawakened Americans to the architectural traditions of their colonial past. Fairly small numbers of Colonial Revival homes were built c. 1880–1910, a period when Queen Anne-style architecture was dominant in the United States. A warren is a network of wild rodent or lagomorph, typically rabbit burrows.
