The Admiral City of Newport Half Marathon ( cy, Admiral Hanner Marathon Dinas Casnewydd) is an annual half marathon race held in the Welsh city of Newport, Wales, taking place in March. The event was established in 2013, organised by the charity St. Davids Hospice Care. Background The title sponsor is locally based Admiral Insurance, and the race has grown to accommodate up to almost 2,000 runners. Additional sponsors include Skechers, the South Wales Argus, the University of South Wales, Newport City Council and the city's sports authority Newport Live. Isca, variously specified as Isca Augusta or Isca Silurum, was the site of a Roman legionary fortress and settlement or ''vicus'', the remains of which lie beneath parts of the present-day suburban village of Caerleon in the north of the city of Newport in South Wales. The site includes Caerleon Amphitheatre and is protected by Cadw. Lliswerry ( cy, Llyswyry), or Liswerry is an electoral district (ward) and community of the city of Newport, South Wales. The area is governed by Newport City Council. Totton and Eling () is a civil parish in Hampshire, England, with a population of about 29,000 people. Friars Walk is a partially under-cover shopping centre and leisure complex in Newport city centre, South Wales. It has several levels and includes a range of high street shops, eateries, a cinema, a bowling alley and a soft play area. The complex is linked by the redeveloped John Frost Square to the Kingsway Shopping Centre, Newport Museum, Art Gallery and Central Library and Newport bus station. The ABP Newport Wales Marathon ( cy, ABP Marathon Casnewydd Cymru) is a marathon race held in the Welsh city of Newport, Wales, taking place in May. The event was established in 2018, started by national race organisers Run4Wales. Background The title sponsor is Associated British Ports, the operator of South Wales' ports including Newport Docks. The first race in 2018 saw nearly 10,000 runners take part in both the marathon (3,444 finishers) and the 10K version (2,576 finishers). Local sports body Newport Now has estimated that the 2018 race brought £1.1m to the local economy. The National Roman Legion Museum (Wales) ( cy, Amgueddfa Lleng Rufeinig Cymru) is a museum in Caerleon, near Newport, south-east Wales. It is one of three Roman sites in Caerleon, along with the Baths museum and the open-air ruins of the amphitheatre and barracks. It is part of the wider network of Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales. History Roman Wales was the farthest point west that the Roman Empire in Roman Britain extended to, and as a defence point the fortress at Isca Augusta, now Caerleon, built in 75 AD, was one of only three permanent Roman Legionary fortresses in Roman Britain.
