Newhaven, East Sussex
Newhaven is a port town in East Sussex in England, lying at the mouth of the River Ouse. The town developed during the Middle Ages as the nearby port of Seaford began drying up, forcing a new port to be established. A sheltered harbour was built in the mid-16th century, and a breakwater in the late 18th, to provide continued access to the sea. Newhaven increased in importance following the arrival of the railway in 1847, and regular cross-Channel ferry services to Dieppe. Though these have been reduced in the 21st century, Newhaven still provides regular ferry services and continues to be used as an important freight terminal. Origins Newhaven lies at the mouth of the River Ouse, in the valley the river has cut through the South Downs. Over the centuries the river has migrated between Newhaven and Seaford in response to the growth and decay of a shingle spit ( shoal) at its mouth. There was a Bronze Age fort on what is now Castle Hill.

Newhaven, Edinburgh
Newhaven is a district in the City of Edinburgh, Scotland, between Leith and Granton and about north of the city centre, just north of the Victoria Park district. Formerly a village and harbour on the Firth of Forth, it had a population of approximately 5,000 inhabitants at the 1991 census. Newhaven was designated a conservation area, one of 40 such areas in Edinburgh, in 1977. It has a very distinctive building form, typical of many Scottish fishing villages, with a "forestair" leading to accommodation at first floor level. The lower ground floor was used for storing nets. More modern housing dating from the 1960s has replicated the style of these older buildings. Victoria Primary School, established in the 1840s, is a historic building in Newhaven Main Street and the oldest local council primary school still in use within the City of Edinburgh. __NOTOC__ Newhaven Wildlife Sanctuary, once known as Newhaven station, lies north-west of Alice Springs at the junction of three distinct bioregions: the Great Sandy Desert, MacDonnell Ranges and Burt Plain in the Northern Territory of Australia. It was established when Newhaven Station, a pastoral cattle-grazing property in the arid zone of the Northern Territory was purchased by Birds Australia in December 2000 from the then owner, Alex Coppock, in order to conserve its outstanding natural values. At in area, Newhaven is five times the size of Birds Australia's other reserve, Gluepot, in South Australia. Newhaven's landforms include parallel dunes, salt lakes, claypans, plains and rocky hills. Newhaven, Victoria
Newhaven is a town in southern Victoria, in the south Gippsland region. Located on Phillip Island, adjacent to the channel known as The Narrows, it is the town on the island side of the bridge linking Phillip Island to the mainland. At the 2016 census, Newhaven had a population of 449. The Post Office opened on 1 January 1873 and closed in 1975. Newhaven College is a non-denominational, independent school situated on Phillip Island, in Victoria, Australia. It operates at 1770 Phillip Island Road, Phillip Island. The school opened its doors in 1980 and closed the Newhaven Campus in December 2017. The College is Prep to Year 12. It is led by Principal Tony Corr, alongside Jason Scott (Head of Senior School and Vice Principal), Geoff White (Head of Middle School) and Ralph Arceo (Head of Junior School). In 1999, the Junior School opened at the Newhaven Campus with the introduction of a combined class of Year 5 and Year 6. The Year 9 Learning Centre opened in 2005. Viscount Newhaven
Viscount Newhaven was a title in the Peerage of Scotland. It was created 17 May 1681 for Charles Cheyne (or Cheyney), a Member of Parliament and Clerk of the Pipe. He was made Lord Cheyne at the same time, also in the Peerage of Scotland. He married Lady Jane Cavendish, a daughter of William Cavendish, 1st Duke of Newcastle by whom he was the father of William Cheyne, 2nd Viscount Newhaven. Charles purchased the estate of Chelsea, Middlesex (now in Central London), and was buried at Chelsea Old Church. After him are named Cheyne Row, Upper Cheyne Row and Cheyne Walk, in Chelsea. Upon the death of the 2nd Viscount on 26 May 1728 without issue, both titles became extinct. Pathfinder (RAF)
The Pathfinders were target-marking squadrons in RAF Bomber Command during World War II. They located and marked targets with flares, which a main bomber force could aim at, increasing the accuracy of their bombing. The Pathfinders were normally the first to receive new blind-bombing aids like Gee, Oboe and the H2S radar. The early Pathfinder Force (PFF) squadrons was expanded to become a group, No. 8 (Pathfinder Force) Group in January 1943. The initial Pathfinder Force was five squadrons, while No. 8 Group ultimately grew to a strength of 19 squadrons. While the majority of Pathfinder squadrons and personnel were from the Royal Air Force, the group also included many from the air forces of other Commonwealth countries.
