Newfoundland And Labrador English School District
The Newfoundland and Labrador English School District is the school board overseeing all English-language primary and secondary education in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador. In June 2018, NLESD held jurisdiction over 256 schools serving more than 65,000 students across the province. It was created in 2013 as part of the amalgamation of all provincial school boards into an English-language and a French-language board. There had previously been four English-language school boards in the province: the Nova Central School District, Eastern School District, Labrador School Board, and Western School Board. Botwood Collegiate
Botwood is a town in north-central Newfoundland, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada in Census Division 6. It is located on the west shore of the Bay of Exploits on a natural deep water harbour used by cargo ships and seaplanes throughout the town's history. Botwood was the North American terminus for the first transatlantic commercial flights. History In 1908, construction began on the Botwood Railway; the railway ran between Bishop's Falls and Botwood. It was a joint effort between the A.N.D. Company and the A. E. Reed Company of Bishop's Falls. It was to be the transportation link for the export of pulp and paper from the newly built mill at Grand Falls, NL. The railway became operational by the fall of 1909, and the first shipment of paper from the new mill was sent in February 1910. The A.N.D. Glovertown Academy
Glovertown is a town in northeastern Newfoundland, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. It is in Division No. 7 on Alexander Bay. History Originally, Glovertown was called Bloody Bay. That name dated back to the 18th century and supposedly it referred to a massacre of a family of 11 by Beothuk natives that were living in the area at the time. The town was renamed Alexander Bay in 1894. During 1894, a section of railway was being built in the area. A few years later the town was renamed to Glovertown, its current name, after Sir John Hawley Glover who served as the Governor of Newfoundland from 1876 to 1881 and from 1883 to 1885. The first settlers of Glovertown appeared in the early 19th century. In 1845, 12 people lived there. By 1857 there were only 10 and by 1862 there were only 8. Gander Academy
Gander Academy is a school in Gander, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. It is operated by the Newfoundland and Labrador English School District. History In 1996, a neighboring Catholic school, St. Joseph's Elementary, closed its doors. The former students of St. Joseph's were moved into the larger Gander Academy building greatly increasing enrollment. In 2000, the former middle school, Gander Middle School, was also shut down. Grand Falls-Windsor is a town located in the central region of the island of Newfoundland in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, with a population of 13,853 at the 2021 census. Dorset Collegiate (officially called Dorset Collegiate High School) is a school in Pilley's Island, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. The principal is Pam Kelley and the vice principal is Alex Hutchings. The school is in Division B of the 3A Provincial Slo-Pitch Tournament and Division A of the 3A Boys Volleyball Provincials.
