The Newark Unified School District (NUSD) is the public school district for Newark, California, United States. NUSD was formed in 1964. As of 2021-22, NUSD consists of the following schools: * Birch Grove Primary Elementary School (Formerly named James L. Bunker; it was named BGP in 2016.) * Birch Grove Intermediate Elementary School (Formerly named Louis Milani; it was named BGI in 2016.) * Coyote Hills Elementary School (Formerly named James A. Graham; it was named Coyote Hills in 2021. Newark is a city in Alameda County, California, United States. It was incorporated as a city in September 1955. Newark is an enclave, surrounded by the city of Fremont. The three cities of Newark, Fremont, and Union City make up the Tri-City Area. Its population was 47,529 at the 2020 census making it the third largest city in the US named Newark after Newark, New Jersey, and Newark, Ohio. Geography The western edge of the city is near the southern end of the San Francisco Bay. State Route 84 runs through the city, and continues as the Dumbarton Bridge to cross the San Francisco Bay to reach Menlo Park. Interstate 880 serves as the eastern boundary with Fremont. Newark Memorial High School (NMHS) is a comprehensive high school in Newark, California, United States. It is part of the Newark Unified School District (NUSD). History Newark Memorial High School was formed in 1983 as part of a school consolidation program instituted by NUSD. Prior to this, Newark had two high schools (Newark High School on Lafayette Avenue, and Memorial High School on Cedar Boulevard) and two "intermediate schools" for grades 78 (M. D. Silva Intermediate School on Thornton Avenue and John I. MacGregor Intermediate School on Cedar Boulevard). In 1983, both M. D. Silva and John I. MacGregor were closed and the former Newark High School was converted into Newark's only junior high school, Newark Junior High School. Memorial High School was then renamed Newark Memorial High School and became the sole high school in Newark.
