New Zealand State Highway 21
State Highway 21 (SH 21) is a short 6.7 kilometre stretch of highway in the North Island of New Zealand. It links , Waikato Expressway at Tamahere and at Ōhaupō. Its main destination is Hamilton Airport and Mystery Creek, where the National Agricultural Fieldays are held. SH 21 was gazetted as a brand new state highway designation in 1997. Oddities SH 21 is actually 120km south of where the number is supposed to be when considering the general pattern of assigning increasing state highway numbers in a north–south direction; in reality, it should lie somewhere in South Auckland. Waikato Expressway
The Waikato Expressway is a dual carriageway section of (SH 1) in New Zealand's Waikato region. Constructed in stages, it forms part of the link between Auckland and Hamilton. Currently stretching from Auckland to south of Cambridge, the highway was first built in 1993. Throughout its current lifetime, it had underwent many upgrades to optimize traffic flow throughout the Waikato region, including various bypasses of most towns in the region, and lastly Hamilton in 2022. The final part of the Expressway was completed on 12 July 2022. The expressway forms a long continuous four-lane dual carriageway from the Bombay Hills to beyond the town of Cambridge, south-east of Hamilton. Mystery Creek Events Centre
Mystery Creek Events Centre is one of New Zealand's biggest events centres. Located in the outskirts of Hamilton, New Zealand, it is home to many events, the largest being the National Agricultural Fieldays which is held annually in June. Mystery Creek Events Centre boasts 114 hectares of land and event versatility with multi-functional facilities and an abundance of indoor and outdoor space ensuring the centre can host all components of an event on one property. Cobham Bridge
Cobham Bridge is a long girder bridge in Hamilton, New Zealand, on Cobham Drive, which is part of SH1. It spans the Waikato River. The Ministry of Works plaque at the southern end of the bridge says they designed it and it was opened on 29 June 1963. Its deck is above sea level. The river bed is above sea level. Like the 1962 Cobham Bridge over the Whanganui River, it was opened when Lord Cobham was Governor General, though not opened by him. Victoria Bridge (or the High-level bridge) is a hinged braced arch, bridge in New Zealand, linking Cambridge with Leamington (developed after the bridge opened) and spanning the Waikato River. Design The bridge stretches , including a central arch, is wide and has over 330 tons of steel and 20,000 rivets. The original specification was increased by the government engineer, Peter Seton Hay, adding 15 tons of steel and about 60% more to the concrete pillars, which were made from local and imported cement, Te Kuiti limestone and Cambridge sand. The classification of the design has been disputed. The heritage listing describes it as a cantilever bridge, which was also used in some contemporary descriptions. Soil nailing is a remedial construction measure to treat unstable natural soil slopes or unstable man-made (fill) slopes as a construction technique that allows the safe over-steepening of new or existing soil slopes. Tuakau ( mi, Tūākau) is a town in the Waikato region at the foot of Bombay hills, formerly part of the Franklin district until 2010, when it became part of Waikato District in the North Island of New Zealand.
