New York State Route 39 (1920s–1930)
New York State Route 39 (NY 39) was a state highway in the Hudson Valley region of New York in the United States. It stretched from NY 21 (now U.S. Route 44) in the town of Poughkeepsie to NY 22 in Patterson, New York. NY 39 was designated in the mid-1920s and was replaced with NY 202, NY 311, and part of NY 52 in the 1930 renumbering of state highways in New York. Route description NY 39 began in the town of Poughkeepsie at NY 21. The route headed southeastward past the western fringe of La Grange, and into Wappingers Falls where it crossed the Wappinger Creek. The route entered East Fishkill, where it began to turn northeastward through Stormville and the hamlet of Green Haven. Poughkeepsie (town), New York
Poughkeepsie (), officially the Town of Poughkeepsie, is a town in Dutchess County, New York, United States. As of the 2020 United States Census, the population was 45,471. The name is derived from the native term ''Uppuqui'' () meaning "lodge-covered", plus ''ipis'' meaning "little water", plus ''ing'' meaning "place", all of which translates to "the reed-covered lodge by the little water place", or ''Uppuqui-ipis-ing''. This later evolved into ''Apokeepsing'', then into ''Poughkeepsing'', and finally ''Poughkeepsie''. The area includes a large IBM campus noted for its ongoing development and manufacturing of IBM mainframes. East Fishkill is a town on the southern border of Dutchess County, New York, United States. The population was 29,707 at the 2020 census. The town was once the eastern portion of the town of Fishkill. Hudson Valley Research Park is located in the town. The site once known as IBM East Fishkill, once housed 27 divisions and 4,700 regular employees for IBM Microelectronics, which latter became a part of GlobalFoundries. IBM produced microchips at this facility and it also house the advanced, automated processor fabrication facility where IBM's "Cell" processor was co-developed. Patterson is a town in Putnam County, New York, United States. The town is in the northeastern part of the county. Interstate 84 passes through the southwestern section of the town. The population was 11,541 at the 2020 census. The town is named after early farmer Matthew Paterson. New York State Route 292
New York State Route 292 (NY 292) is a short state highway in the Hudson Valley of New York in the United States, bridging Putnam and Dutchess counties. The southern terminus of the route is at an intersection with NY 311 in the town of Patterson, and the northern terminus is at a junction with NY 55 in the town of Pawling. NY 292 traverses mostly rural areas as it heads northwestward through Patterson and Pawling. Along the way, NY 292 passes along the southern and western edges of Whaley Lake. The portion of NY 292 between West Patterson and Whaley Lake originated as a dirt road named the Patterson–Dutchess County Line Road. West Pawling, New York
Pawling is a town in Dutchess County, New York, United States. Its population was 8,012 at the 2020 census. The town is named after Catherine Pauling, the daughter of Henry Beekman, who held the second largest land patent in the county. A misprint caused the U to change to a W and the name stuck. New York State Route 55
New York State Route 55 (NY 55) is a east-west state highway in southern New York, running from the Pennsylvania state line at the Delaware River in Barryville to the Connecticut state line at Wingdale. It is the only other state highway beside NY 7 to completely cross the state, from border to border, in an east–west direction, although NY 17 does so and is partially east–west. It also forms a concurrency when it joins US 44 for 33 miles (53 km). Together with NY 52, which it closely parallels and briefly joins in downtown Liberty, it forms the latitudinal backbone of the Hudson Valley region for non-interstate traffic. Holmes is a hamlet in the town of Pawling, Dutchess County, New York, United States. History Formerly Reynoldsville, the decision was made to change the name upon the discovery that there was already a post office with the same name in New York.
