New York City's 50th City Council District
New York City's 50th City Council district is one of 51 districts in the New York City Council. It has been represented by Republican David Carr since the end of 2021. Carr was the chief of staff to former Councilman Steven Matteo. Matteo was term-limited in 2021 and ran unsuccessfully for Staten Island Borough President. Geography District 50 covers a large swath of Mid-Island Staten Island, including the neighborhoods of New Dorp, Midland Beach, Dongan Hills, South Beach, Arrochar, Bloomfield, Bulls Head, Castleton Corners, Chelsea, Egbertville, Emerson Hill, Grant City, Grasmere, Lighthouse Hill, Manor Heights, Meiers Corners, Oakwood, Old Town, Richmondtown, Shore Acres, Todt Hill, Travis, Westerleigh, Willowbrook, and parts of Concord, Graniteville, Heartland Village, New Springville, and Rosebank. South Beach, Staten Island
South Beach is a neighborhood on the East Shore of Staten Island, New York City, situated directly south of the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge. South Beach is bounded by New York Bay on the southeast, Seaview Avenue on the southwest, Laconia Avenue on the northwest, Reid and McClean Avenues on the north, and Lily Pond Avenue on the northeast. It is adjacent to Midland Beach to the southwest, Dongan Hills and Old Town/Concord to the northwest, and Fort Wadsworth and Rosebank to the northeast. Old Town, Staten Island
Old Town is a neighborhood in the New York City borough of Staten Island, located on its East Shore. Old Town was established in August 1661 as part of New Netherland, and was the first permanent European settlement on Staten Island. Originally described as "Oude Dorpe" (old village in Dutch), much of its original territory makes up what is present-day South Beach, with parts of Midland Beach and Dongan Hills. The area was settled by a group of Dutch, Walloon (from what is now southern Belgium and its borders with France) and French Protestants (Huguenots) led by Walloon Pierre Billiou. Oakwood is a neighborhood located in east central Staten Island, New York City, near the South Shore. It is bordered by Tysens Lane (north); the Atlantic Ocean (east); Great Kills Park (south); Kensico Street, and Clarke Avenue (west). Manor Heights is a neighborhood located in Staten Island, New York City. ''Manor'' comes from the fact that the neighborhood is adjacent to Manor Road, a major thoroughfare in the North Shore of Staten Island, and ''Heights'' due to the area's sudden elevation within its boundaries. Grant City is the name of a neighborhood located on the East Shore of Staten Island, New York City. To the east of Grant City lies Midland Beach, and a high cliff to the west of Richmond Road separates Grant City from Todt Hill. New Dorp is situated immediately south of Grant City. Emerson Hill, Staten Island
Emerson Hill is the name of a hilly area, and the neighborhood upon which the hill is situated in Staten Island, New York, one of the five boroughs of New York City, United States. The roads on Emerson Hill are technically private, and several gates are found at approaches to the enclave. Since the gates are seldom closed and are not staffed by security personnel, it does not qualify as a gated community. Emerson Hill is separated from its equally exclusive neighborhoods of Grymes Hill just north of the Staten Island Expressway, and Todt Hill — where private roads also exist — borders on the south. Egbertville, Staten Island
Egbertville is the name of a neighborhood located immediately inland from, but classifiable within, the East Shore of the borough of Staten Island in New York City. Originally named Stony Brook as the island's first county seat, then renamed after a family that owned a farm there in the 18th century, Egbertville was known for a time as Morgan's Corner, from 1838. Soon after this, many Irish families arrived in the area, leading to its being referred to (somewhat jokingly) by such names as Tipperary Corners, New Dublin, and Young Ireland. Egbertville is at the center of the Staten Island Greenbelt, with the park system's administrative offices being located there. Chelsea is a small neighborhood located on the West Shore of Staten Island in New York City. It is bordered on the north by South Avenue, on the east by the William T. It is in a region of the island often referred to as the North Shore, Staten Island. Description The word "corners" in the neighborhood's name refers to the intersection of Victory Boulevard and Manor Road, which forms its core. This part of Castleton, Staten Island was once called Centerville, but became more popularly known as Castleton Corners when a post office by that name was opened there in 1872.
