New York City's 25th City Council district is one of 51 districts in the New York City Council. It is currently represented by Democrat Shekar Krishnan. Geography District 25 is based in the northwestern Queens neighborhoods of Jackson Heights and East Elmhurst, and Elmhurst. The district overlaps with Queens Community Boards 3 and 4, and with New York's 6th and 14th congressional districts. It also overlaps with the 12th, 13th, and 16th districts of the New York State Senate, and with the 30th, 34th, 35th, 36th, and 39th districts of the New York State Assembly. New York's 6th Congressional District
New York's 6th congressional district is a congressional district for the United States House of Representatives in New York City, located entirely within Queens. It is represented by Democrat Grace Meng. A plurality of the district's population is Asian-American, and a majority of its population is non-white. The district includes several racially and ethnically diverse Queens neighborhoods, including Auburndale, Bayside, Elmhurst, Flushing, Forest Hills, Glendale, Kew Gardens, Maspeth, Middle Village, Murray Hill, and Rego Park. Daniel Dromm
Daniel Dromm (born November 27, 1955) is an American politician who served in the New York City Council from the 25th district from 2010 to 2021. He is a Democrat. The district includes East Elmhurst, Elmhurst and Jackson Heights in Queens. Life and career Dromm was born in Rego Park, but his family moved to Oyster Bay on Long Island when he was 5, and later to Manhasset when he was 9. He attended Catholic schools. Dromm graduated from Marist College and earned his master's degree at City College. A resident of Jackson Heights, Dromm began his first career as a public school teacher in 1984 at P.S. 199 in Sunnyside. As an educator, he promoted teaching acceptance of LGBT individuals through the Rainbow Curriculum and publicly came out in 1992. Heavily involved in the Queens County Democratic Party, he served as Democratic District Leader in the 39th assembly district. 2021 New York City Council Election
The 2021 New York City Council election were held on November 2, 2021. The primary elections were held on June 22, 2021. There were several special elections for seats vacated in 2020 and early 2021; these special elections were the first to use ranked-choice voting in city council elections after it was approved by a ballot question in 2019. Due to redistricting after the 2020 Census, candidates also ran for two-year terms instead of four-year terms for the first time, stemming from the New York City Charter overhaul in 1989. Four-year terms will resume in the 2025 election after another two-year election in 2023. Instant-runoff voting (IRV) is a type of Ranked voting, ranked preferential Electoral system, voting method.
