New York City's 15th City Council District
New York City's 15th City Council district is one of 51 districts in the New York City Council. It has been represented by Democrat Oswald Feliz since a 2021 special election to succeed fellow Democrat Ritchie Torres. Geography District 15 covers neighborhoods in the geographical center of the Bronx, including some or all of Belmont, Tremont, Fordham, Bedford Park, Williamsbridge, East Tremont, Van Nest, Allerton, and West Farms. Bronx Park, which contains both the Bronx Zoo and the New York Botanical Garden, is located within the district. The district overlaps with Bronx Community Boards 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, 11, and 12, and with New York's 13th, 14th, 15th, and 16th congressional districts. Van Nest, Bronx
Van Nest is a working-class neighborhood geographically located in the East Bronx section of the Bronx, New York City. Going clockwise, its boundaries are Bronxdale Avenue to the northeast, the Amtrak tracks to the southeast, and Bronx Park to the west. Van Nest predated Morris Park by 20 years and is considered the older of the two communities. Morris Park Avenue and White Plains Road are the primary commercial thoroughfares through Van Nest. Community Boards Of New York City
The community boards of the New York City government are the appointed advisory groups of the community districts of the five boroughs. There are currently 59 community districts: twelve in the Bronx, eighteen in Brooklyn, twelve in Manhattan, fourteen in Queens, and three in Staten Island. They advise on land use and zoning, participate in the city budget process, and address service delivery in their district. Regarding land use they are only advisory and mostly serve as mobilizing institutions for communities opposed to specific projects. The City Charter also allows boards to submit their own plans for the development, growth, and improvement of their communities. New York Botanical Garden
The New York Botanical Garden (NYBG) is a botanical garden at Bronx Park in the Bronx, New York City. Established in 1891, it is located on a site that contains a landscape with over one million living plants; the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory, a greenhouse containing several habitats; and the LuEsther T. Mertz Library, which contains one of the world's largest collections of botany-related texts. , over a million people visit the New York Botanical Garden annually. The Bronx Zoo (also historically the Bronx Zoological Park and the Bronx Zoological Gardens) is a zoo within Bronx Park in the Bronx, New York.
