New Wave – The Other Cyprus ( el, Νέο Κύμα – Η Άλλη Κύπρος, Néo Kýma – I Álli Kýpros) was a political movement in the Republic of Cyprus. The movement's main stated goal was to mobilize society for reform and new prospects for Cyprus and the young people of the country. History Neo Kyma was founded on November 18, 2019, by Constantinos Christofides, former rector of the University of Cyprus, as a movement against corruption and the ongoing political stagnation in Cyprus during the division of Cyprus. The name New Wave is inspired by the same-named music movement in Greece, film movement in France, and cultural movement in the United States during the 1960s, which coincided with the independence of Cyprus. Volt Europa
Volt Europa (frequently abbreviated as Volt) is a pro-European and European federalist political movement that also serves as the pan-European structure for subsidiary parties in several EU member states. Volt candidates stood on a common, pan-European manifesto in eight member states at the European Parliament elections in May 2019. The organisation follows a "pan-European approach" in many policy fields such as climate change, migration, economic inequality, international conflict, terrorism and the impact of the technological revolution on the labour market. The party endorses "evidence-based policy" and the sharing of best practice between EU member states. It was founded on 29 March 2017. Greek Cypriots or Cypriot Greeks ( el, Ελληνοκύπριοι, Ellinokýprioi, tr, Kıbrıs Rumları) are the ethnic Greek population of Cyprus, forming the island's largest ethnolinguistic community. According to the 2011 census, 659,115 respondents recorded their ethnicity as Greek, forming almost 99% of the 667,398 Cypriot citizens and over 78% of the 840,407 total residents of the area controlled by the Republic of Cyprus. These figures do not include the 29,321 citizens of Greece residing in Cyprus, ethnic Greeks recorded as citizens of other countries, or the population of the Turkish-occupied Northern Cyprus.
