New Turkey Party (1961)
New Turkey Party ( tr, Yeni Türkiye Partisi, YTP) was a former Turkish political party. Background Democrat Party which was the ruling party of Turkey between 1950 and 1960 was closed by the military rule in 1960. In 1961, a number of new parties were founded to fill the political gap of Democrat Party. New Turkey Party was one of them. Foundation of the party The founder of the party was Ekrem Alican, a former Democrat Party deputy prior to 1957 . He had also worked for the military rule as a Minister of Finance. The party was founded on 13 February 1961. Other important figures in the party were Yüksel Menderes (Adnan Menderes' son), Aydın Yalçın (academician), Fahrettin Kerim Gökay (former İstanbul mayor) and Yusuf Azizoğlu, (MD and former Silvan mayor). New Turkey Party or abbreviated as NTP, ( tr, Yeni Türkiye Partisi, YTP) was a social democratic political party in Turkey. It was founded in 2002 following a leadership crisis in the Democratic Left Party ( tr, Demokratik Sol Parti, DSP) that was the major partner in a three party coalition government. History The health condition of elder statesman Bülent Ecevit, the Prime Minister and leader of the party led to rumours that his Deputy Prime minister and Minister of State, Hüsamettin Özkan, was plotting to replace him. As a result, Özkan was forced to resign, nearly half of DSP's parliamentarians followed him including İsmail Cem, the Minister of Foreign affairs. Özkan, Zeki Eker, Cem and Kemal Derviş, the Minister of State in charge of economy, then decided to establish a new social democratic party. İsmail Cem became the leader of the party. New Turkey Party ( tr, Yeni Türkiye Partisi, abbreviated YTP) or formerly known as Conservative Ascension Party ( tr, Muhafazakâr Yükseliş Partisi), is a Turkish nationalist and Conservative political party formed on 24 January 2013, succeeding the Nationalist and Conservative Party. Under the leadership of Engin Yılmaz, the party contested the 2014 local elections and won 1,834 votes, unable to win any councillors or municipalities. In preparation for the June 2015 general election, the party has called for a triple alliance between themselves, the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) and the Great Union Party (BBP). The YTP is Eurosceptic and puts forward the view that the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus should become an independent and globally recognised sovereign state.
