New South Wales Z23 Class Locomotive
The Z23 class (formerly O.446 class) was a class of steam locomotives built in 1891 for the New South Wales Government Railways in Australia. Royal Commission Although this may have been the result of a contemporary anti-American bias, these locomotives were said to be too heavy and too wide at the cylinders, and were the subject of a Royal Commission. Withdrawal 2305 was the first withdrawn in May 1933. By 1941, only six were left, with the last, 2304, being withdrawn in September 1946. None has survived onto preservation. Baldwin Locomotive Works
The Baldwin Locomotive Works (BLW) was an American manufacturer of railroad locomotives from 1825 to 1951. Originally located in Philadelphia, it moved to nearby Eddystone, Pennsylvania, in the early 20th century. The company was for decades the world's largest producer of steam locomotives, but struggled to compete as demand switched to diesel locomotives. Baldwin produced the last of its 70,000-plus locomotives in 1951, before merging with the Lima-Hamilton Corporation on September 11, 1951, to form the Baldwin-Lima-Hamilton Corporation. A steam locomotive is a locomotive that provides the force to move itself and other vehicles by means of the expansion of steam. The New South Wales Government Railways (NSWGR) was the agency of the Government of New South Wales that administered rail transport in New South Wales, Australia, between 1855 and 1932.
