Norman Oakes
Norman "Norm" Oakes AO (24 February 1926 – 5 September 2015) was a former New South Wales public servant. Early life Norman "Norm" Oakes was born on 24 February 1926 in Wallsend, New South Wales, Australia, the son of John Oakes and Florence Bobb. He attended Newcastle Boys' High School and thereafter studied economics at the University of Sydney. Joining the NSW Public Service on 21 July 1941. During the Second World War Oakes enlisted in the Royal Australian Air Force, serving from 1944 to 1946. Public service career After the war Oakes rose to be Registrar-General of NSW Births Deaths and marriages and a member of the Public Service board. Bertram Stevens (politician)
Sir Bertram Sydney Barnsdale Stevens (2 January 1889 – 24 March 1973), also referred to as B. S. B. Stevens, was an Australian politician who served as the 25th Premier of New South Wales, in office from 1932 to 1939 as leader of the United Australia Party (UAP). Stevens grew up in Sydney and was an accountant and public servant before entering politics. He was elected to the New South Wales Legislative Assembly at the 1927 state election, as a member of the Nationalist Party. In 1929, he was appointed state treasurer under Thomas Bavin, serving until his party lost the 1930 election. In 1932, Stevens was elected as the inaugural leader of the state branch of the UAP. He became premier later that year, following the dismissal of Labor's Jack Lang, and subsequently led his party to victory at the 1932, 1935, and 1938 elections. Geoffrey Eagar
Geoffrey Eagar (17 December 1818 – 12 September 1891) was an accountant and colonial politician and civil servant in New South Wales, Australia. Early life Eagar was born in Sydney, son of Jemima McDuel and Edward, a lawyer, emancipated convict and merchant. Edward left Australia in 1821, while Geoffrey was still an infant, to take a legal battle over the rights of freed convicts to London, and did not return. His mother Jemima then married William Wentworth, and gave birth to a son. In 1843 he married Mary Ann Bucknell, and the couple had 4 children. Politics Eagar worked as an accountant at the Bank of New South Wales from 1854 for around five years before resigning to accept an appointment to the New South Wales Legislative Council in September 1859.
