New South Wales 19 Class Locomotive
The New South Wales Z19 class was a class of 0-6-0 steam locomotives operated by the New South Wales Government Railways of Australia. History By 1877, the main lines in New South Wales were nearing Tamworth, Wagga Wagga and Orange. The additional distances required an increase in motive power, especially as at that time, locomotives were changed after quite short journeys. They were only in service when manned by their regular crew. Between 1877 and 1881, the initial order of 50 of these 0-6-0 wheel arrangement locomotives were delivered from Beyer, Peacock & Company. Between 1880 and 1891, Beyer, Peacock delivered a further nine, and Sydney manufacturer Henry Vale, 18. The load which these locomotives could haul over the Blue Mountains line was 128 tonnes at 11–13 km/h. The NSW Rail Museum is the main railway museum in New South Wales, Australia. A division of Transport Heritage NSW, it was previously known as the New South Wales Rail Transport Museum (NSWRTM), Rail Heritage Centre and Trainworks. New South Wales D50 Class Locomotive
The D50 class is an old class of 2-8-0 steam locomotives built for the New South Wales Government Railways of Australia. History The first was delivered in May 1896 by Beyer, Peacock and Company with further orders over the next 20 years seeing the class number 280. Their second and third coupled wheel tyres were flangeless to reduce curve friction. During the First World War, an additional 10 locomotives of this class were under construction at the North British Locomotive Company, but these types of engines were not delivered to Australia, being taken over by the British War Office for the Royal Engineers Railway Operating Division. After the war, they were offered back to the New South Wales Government Railways at higher than new prices and in a badly worn condition. The Dorrigo Steam Railway & Museum in Dorrigo, New South Wales, Australia is a large, privately owned collection of railway vehicles and equipment from the railways of New South Wales, covering both Government and private railways. The collection dates from 1878 until 1985. Status The museum was opened very briefly in 1986, but has been described as "not yet open to the public" ever since. Oberon Railway Line
The Oberon railway line is a short, disused branch railway line on the Central Tablelands of New South Wales, Australia. The line branches from the Main Western line at Tarana railway station and heads in a southerly direction to Oberon railway station, with length of 24 km. It was earlier put forward as a line from Tarana to Burraga, via Oberon, to benefit the Burraga copper mine. It opened on 3 October 1923, after the copper mine at Burraga had closed down. The line was lightly constructed with steep grades (1 in 25) and tight curves, and was operated by lightweight steam and then diesel locomotives. It transported local seasonal vegetables, timber and livestock. Passenger services ended in 1971, and goods services were suspended in 1979 with the line effectively closing. The Tumut () and Kunama railway lines are disused railway lines in the south of New South Wales, Australia. The Tumut line was a long branch of the Main South line, branching southwards from it at Cootamundra and heading to the town of Tumut. The line served the towns of Tumut and Gundagai, where the line crosses the Murrumbidgee River with a large iron girder bridge and wooden viaduct. Villages on the line included Brawlin, Muttama, Coolac and Tumblong (previously named Adelong Crossing). The Dorrigo railway line is a closed railway line in the north of New South Wales, Australia. It branches from the North Coast line at Glenreagh. Original scheme The Dorrigo line was intended to be part of a much larger rail system linking the ports of Coffs Harbour and Grafton with the Northern and North western lines. The line would have joined with the system at Guyra, Inverell and Werris Creek.
