New Pacific Academy
New Pacific Academy (NPA) was an education and training program for young lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender ( LGBT) activists held in San Francisco, California in the summer of 1990. 104 students aged 18 to 30 attended the month-long program. NPA was a program of the Critical Literacy Institute, a non-profit organization founded by Luke Adams in 1989 to merge inquiry and action, and to sponsor young activist scholars, particularly those from marginalized populations. Cleve Jones, founder of the NAMES Project AIDS Memorial Quilt, co-founded NPA. Joe van Es-Ballesteros served as general manager, and Karyn Andrade served as program director. The curriculum covered the nuts and bolts of activism, LGBT history, organizing skills, health issues, and diversity. Holly Near (born June 6, 1949) is an American singer-songwriter, actress, teacher, and activist. Early years Holly Near was born in Ukiah, California, United States, and was raised on a ranch in Potter Valley, California. She was eight years old when she first performed publicly, and she auditioned for Columbia Records when she was ten. She sang in all the high school musicals, talent shows and often was invited to sing at gatherings of local service groups, such as the Soroptimist Club, Lions Club, and Garden Club. Her senior year she played Eliza Doolittle in the Ukiah High School production of ''My Fair Lady''. The ''San Francisco Chronicle'' is a newspaper serving primarily the San Francisco Bay Area of Northern California. Harry Britt
Harry Britt (June 8, 1938 – June 24, 2020) was an American political activist and politician in San Francisco. Britt was involved during the late-1960s in the civil rights movement when he was a Methodist minister in Chicago. He was first appointed to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors in January 1979 by Mayor Dianne Feinstein, succeeding Harvey Milk, who was assassinated in City Hall along with Mayor George Moscone by former Supervisor Dan White. Career San Francisco Board of Supervisors Britt served as President of the San Francisco Gay Democratic Club.
