New Mexico State Auditor
The state auditor of New Mexico is a constitutional officer in the executive branch of government of the U.S. state of New Mexico. Twenty-eight individuals have held the office of state auditor since statehood. The incumbent is Brian Colón, a Democrat. Eligibility and term of office No person may be elected state auditor other than a United States citizen of at least 30 years of age who has resided continuously in New Mexico for five years preceding the election. The state auditor is elected to a four-year term and is able to serve up to two consecutive terms; more terms may be served after one full term has intervened. Powers and duties The state auditor assures that the financial affairs of New Mexico's 1,000-plus local governments and state agencies are thoroughly examined and audited each year and may conduct, in whole or part, audits of any of the aforesaid public bodies at any time. Miguel Antonio Otero (born 1859)
Miguel Antonio Otero II (October 17, 1859 – August 7, 1944) was an American politician, businessman, and author who served as the 16th Governor of New Mexico Territory from 1897 to 1906. He was the son of Miguel Antonio Otero, a prominent businessman and New Mexico politician. Early life Miguel Antonio Otero had an adventurous boyhood as his father, a businessman and railroad baron, moved the family from town to town across Kansas, Colorado, and New Mexico. The family established a permanent home in Las Vegas, New Mexico about 1879. He attended St. Louis University and the University of Notre Dame with his older brother Page, but preferred socializing to studying. He returned to Las Vegas in 1880 to work in his father's bank. Jerry Apodaca
Jerry Apodaca (born October 3, 1934) is an American politician of the Democratic Party who served as the 24th governor of New Mexico from 1975 to 1979 and chair of the president’s council on physical fitness and sports from 1978 to 1980. Personal life Apodaca graduated from the University of New Mexico in 1956 with a bachelor of science degree; he was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. Apodaca would later enter the insurance business. Politics In 1965, he was elected to the New Mexico Senate, in which he served for four two-year terms from 1966 to 1974. Max Sánchez Barrantes (born 2 January 1973) is a retired Costa Rican professional footballer. Frank Olmstead
Frank Olmstead (March 3, 1923 – January 28, 2004) was an American politician and accountant who served as the 18th Auditor of New Mexico from 1971 to 1974. Early life and education Olmstead was born in Cimarron, New Mexico, and attended Maxwell High School in Maxwell, New Mexico. Olmstead served in the United States Army Air Corps and United States Army during World War II, where he was stationed in England and Germany and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. Career After his discharge from the Army, Olmstead graduated from New Mexico Highlands University. He later became a Certified Public Accountant in Las Vegas, New Mexico, before serving as the town's mayor from 1962 to 1966.
