''New Long Leg'' is the debut studio album by English post-punk band Dry Cleaning (band), Dry Cleaning, released in April 2021 on the label 4AD. Produced by John Parish, it received critical acclaim by the press in the UK and the US. Background In early March 2020, the band were immersed in their first American shows, having played in New York City, which Dowse described as “almost like a religious experience.” After that show, the COVID-19 pandemic, pandemic started and they had to abandon the rest of their tour and go back to London. By that time, they had most of the album written, and later that year went into the studio with producer John Parish. Composition Influences and style The inspiration for this album comes from artists such as Augustus Pablo, Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin. Dry Cleaning are an English post-punk band who formed in South London in 2017. The band is composed of vocalist Florence Shaw, guitarist Tom Dowse, bassist Lewis Maynard and drummer Nick Buxton. They are noted for their use of spoken word primarily in lieu of sung vocals, as well as their unconventional lyrics. Their musical style has been compared to Wire (band), Wire, Magazine (band), Magazine and Joy Division. Preoccupations is a Canadian post-punk band from Calgary, Alberta, formed in 2012 under the name Viet Cong. The band consists of Matt Flegel (vocals, bass), Scott Munro (guitar, synth), Daniel Christiansen (guitar) and Mike Wallace (drums). Flegel and Wallace had previously been members of the band Women, which broke up in 2010. The group's musical style has been described as "labyrinthine post-punk". Protomartyr is an American rock band formed in Detroit, Michigan, in 2010. The band consists of Joe Casey (vocals), Greg Ahee (guitar), Alex Leonard (drums), and Scott Davidson (bass). In 2020, Kelley Deal joined the band in a touring capacity, providing additional keyboards, guitar and backing vocals.
