New Jersey's 26th Legislative District
New Jersey's 26th legislative district is one of 40 in the New Jersey Legislature. The district includes the Morris County municipalities of Boonton, Denville, East Hanover, Florham Park, Hanover, Lincoln Park, Montville, Morris Plains, Mountain Lakes, Pequannock, Parsippany-Troy Hills, and Riverdale; and the Passaic County municipalities of Bloomingdale, Pompton Lakes, Ringwood, and Wanaque. Demographic characteristics As of the 2020 United States census, the district had a population of 224,584, of whom 179,363 (79.9%) were of voting age. The racial makeup of the district was 159,789 (71.1%) White, 5,396 (2.4%) African American, 494 (0.2%) Native American, 33,908 (15.1%) Asian, 49 (0.0%) Pacific Islander, 7,733 (3.4%) from some other race, and 17,215 (7.7%) from two or more races. Joseph Pennacchio
Joseph Pennacchio (born May 27, 1955) is an American Republican Party politician, who has served in the New Jersey Senate since January 8, 2008, where he represents the 26th Legislative District. Pennacchio has served in the Senate as the Deputy Republican Leader since 2022. He served in the General Assembly from 2001 to 2008. Early life Pennacchio was born in Brooklyn, New York. He received a B.S. in 1976 from Brooklyn College in Biology and a D.D.S. degree in 1979 from the New York University College of Dentistry. He served on the Morris County Board of Chosen Freeholders from 1998 to 2001 and is a former member of Governor DiFrancesco's New Jersey Economic Development Authority. He is the founder and a former member of the Montville Education Foundation, and a former member of the Montville Economic Development Council. He ousted incumbent freeholder, John M. Pequannock, New Jersey
Pequannock Township is a township in Morris County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 United States Census, the township's population was 15,420, reflecting an increase of 1,652 (+11.9%) from the 13,888 counted in the 2000 Census, which had in turn increased by 1,044 (+8.1%) from the 12,844 counted in the 1990 Census. The primary community in the township is the census-designated place of Pompton Plains. The name "Pequannock", as used in the name of the township and of the Pequannock River, is thought to have been derived from the Lenni Lenape Native American word ''Paquettahhnuake'', meaning "cleared land ready or being readied for cultivation".
