New European Ensemble
New European Ensemble is an ensemble, currently based in the Netherlands, that specializes in contemporary music. About New European Ensemble was founded in 2008 in The Hague. The group is made up of young soloists, chamber musicians and orchestral leaders from across Europe. The ensemble has received numerous accolades in the international press for its ‘contagious enthusiasm’ ( Nutida Musik) and ‘excellent’ (Volkskrant) performances. The group has performed in most of the Netherlands' major concert halls including Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ Amsterdam, Dr. Anton Philipszaal Den Haag and De Doelen Rotterdam. In 2010 the ensemble toured Sweden for the first time starting in Västerås Concerthall with subsequent performances in Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö. Kaija Saariaho
Kaija Anneli Saariaho (; ; born 14 October 1952) is a Finnish composer based in Paris, France. During the course of her career, Saariaho has received commissions from the Lincoln Center for the Kronos Quartet and from IRCAM for the Ensemble Intercontemporain, the BBC, the New York Philharmonic, the Salzburg Music Festival, the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, and the Finnish National Opera, among others. Contemporary Classical Music Ensembles
Contemporary history, in English-language historiography, is a subset of modern history that describes the historical period from approximately 1945 to the present. Klas Torstensson (born 16 January 1951) is a Swedish-Dutch composer. Career Torstensson was born in Nässjö, and studied composition Ingesunds Musikhögskola, musicology at Göteborgs universitet and electronic music at the Institute for Sonology. Nieuw Ensemble
The Nieuw Ensemble ( or ; English: New Ensemble) is a Dutch musical ensemble. It was founded in 1980 in Amsterdam. It has a unique instrumental structure, using plucked instruments such as mandolin, guitar and harp in combination with wind, string and percussion. Ed Spanjaard has been the principal conductor since 1982. Almost 500 pieces have been written for the ensemble. The ensemble has dedicated programmes to the works of a single composer, such as Luciano Berio, Pierre Boulez, Elliott Carter, Franco Donatoni, Brian Ferneyhough, Mauricio Kagel, Ton de Leeuw, György Kurtág, Theo Loevendie and Luigi Nono. Ed Spanjaard
Eduard Philip Spanjaard (born 22 December 1948), known professionally as Ed Spanjaard, is a Dutch conductor and pianist. Early life Spanjaard was born in 1948 in Haarlem. His father was a psychiatrist and amateur pianist, and his mother a flautist and music teacher. Spanjaard studied at the Conservatorium van de Vereniging Muzieklyceum at Amsterdam, and then at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. During his studies he was, in addition to conducting amateur ensembles like the Leids Studenten Kamer Orkest (LeSKO), assistant to Bernard Haitink, George Solti, and Herbert von Karajan. Anders Hillborg
Per Anders Hillborg (born 31 May 1954) is one of Sweden’s leading composers. Education Anders Hillborg was born in Sollentuna, and studied composition, counterpoint and electronic music at the Kungliga Musikhögskolan in Stockholm from 1976 to 1982. His teachers were Gunnar Bucht, Lars-Erik Rosell, Arne Mellnäs and Pär Lindgren. An important source of inspiration was Brian Ferneyhough who was a visiting professor at the time.
