New Democratic Party (Kosovo)
The New Democratic Party ( bs, Nova Demokratska Stranka, NDS) is a minority interest political party in Kosovo representing Bosniaks in Kosovo, Bosniaks. It was founded by Emilija Redžepi. The party was founded in 2009 in response to growing discontent in the Bosniaks in Kosovo, Bosniak Community at the Vakat Coalition, who Emilija Redžepi, Redžepi accused of only working for their personal gains, instead of the needs of the community they represented. The party first won representation in the 2010 Kosovan parliamentary election winning 2,478 vote or 0.35% of the vote. This made it the first Bosniak party, that wasn't part of the Vakat Coalition, to win representation in the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo, Assembly. The party has maintained the same representation every election since 2010, with one seat in the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo, Assembly. Emilija Redžepi
Emilija Redžepi ( sq, Emilija Rexhepi) is a Kosovan Bosniak politician, and is a member of the New Democratic Party who sits in the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo. Career Emilija Redžepi is a Bosniak in Kosovo. She has been critical of the lack of support for Bosniak affairs within Kosovo, speaking at a conference on the Day of Bosniak Community she supported teaching in Bosnian and upholding traditions. As well as being a Member of the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo, where she is a member of the New Democratic Party, she has spoken of external affairs, encouraging Bosnia and Herzegovina to abandon the requirements for Kosovans to have travel visas to cross the border. Her daughter was briefly kidnapped in 2015, which Redžepi perceived as a threat to be "careful what she is doing". 2014 Kosovan Parliamentary Election
Parliamentary elections were held in Kosovo on 8 June 2014, after incumbent Prime Minister Hashim Thaçi announced his intention to hold elections. On 7 May, the Assembly was dissolved and President Atifete Jahjaga confirmed the Election date as 8 June 2014. Results Aftermath Foreign media viewed the election results as "inconclusive". According to the Constitution, "If no one challenges the election results within 24 hours, parliament will have 30 days to convene. 2021 Kosovan Parliamentary Election
Parliamentary elections were held in Kosovo on 14 February 2021. The results were a landslide victory for Vetëvendosje led by Albin Kurti and its coalition partner, Vjosa Osmani, former speaker of the parliament of Kosovo. Democratic League Of Kosovo
The Democratic League of Kosovo ( sq, Lidhja Demokratike e Kosovës, LDK) is the oldest and one of the largest political parties in Kosovo. At the legislative elections held on 24 October 2004 the party won 45.4% of the popular vote and 47 out of 120 seats, seven of which have defected to the Nexhat Daci-led Democratic League of Dardania. One of the founding members, Ibrahim Rugova was the president of the party as the president of Kosovo until his death, on 21 January 2006. 2019 Kosovan Parliamentary Election
Parliamentary elections were held in Kosovo on 6 October 2019. The main opposition parties received the most votes, led by Vetëvendosje and the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK). Vetëvendosje leader Albin Kurti became Prime Minister, forming a governing coalition with the LDK on an anti-corruption platform. He is the second Prime Minister not to have been a fighter of the Kosovo Liberation Army during the 1990s. Background On 19 July 2019 Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj resigned after being summoned for questioning by the KSC in The Hague, Netherlands. The constitution requires the President to designate a new candidate to either form a government, or hold new elections in between 30 and 45 days after consultation with political parties or coalitions who hold a majority in the Assembly. On 2 August 2019, President Hashim Thaçi asked the PANA Coalition to propose a new candidate to form a coalition government. However, other political parties opposed the move.
