Judd Greenstein
Judd Greenstein (born 1979) is an American composer of contemporary classical music, and an avid promoter of new music in New York City. He is also a co-director of New Amsterdam Records. Life and career Judd Greenstein was born and raised in Manhattan, and attended Hunter College Elementary School and Hunter College High School. He received his undergraduate degree from Williams College, and his masters in music composition from the Yale School of Music where he studied with Martin Bresnick, Aaron Jay Kernis, and Ezra Laderman. Shortly after Yale, Greenstein began to draw attention in the New York classical scene for the pulse-driven quality and "impressive confidence" of his music, which was being performed at Carnegie Hall, Tanglewood Music Center, and the Tribeca New Music Festival. Daniel Wohl (born September 6, 1980) is a Paris, France born composer based in Los Angeles, California, known for his use of both electronic and acoustic instruments. Education Wohl holds degrees in composition from Bard College, University of Michigan and the Yale School of Music. Deerhoof
Deerhoof are an American musical group formed in San Francisco in 1994. They currently consist of founding drummer Greg Saunier, bassist and singer Satomi Matsuzaki, and guitarists John Dieterich and Ed Rodriguez. Beginning as an improvised noise punk band, Deerhoof became widely renowned and influential in the 2000s through self-produced albums. They have released eighteen studio albums since 1997. Jeffrey Zeigler
The Kronos Quartet is an American string quartet based in San Francisco. It has been in existence with a rotating membership of musicians for almost 50 years. The quartet covers a very broad range of musical genres, including contemporary classical music. More than 900 works have been written for it. History The quartet was founded by violinist David Harrington in Seattle, Washington. Its first performance was in November 1973. Since 1978, the quartet has been based in San Francisco, California. The longest-running combination of performers (from 1978 to 1999) had Harrington and John Sherba on violin, Hank Dutt on viola, and Joan Jeanrenaud on cello. Glenn Kotche
Glenn Kotche (born December 31, 1970 in Roselle, Illinois, United States) is an American drummer and composer, best known for his involvement in the band Wilco. He was named the 40th greatest drummer of all time by Gigwise in 2008. Prior to working with Wilco, Kotche released a four-track album entitled ''Introducing''. In 2003, he released a second solo album titled ''Next'', featuring solo drum improvisations using homemade percussion installations. Darcy James Argue is a jazz composer and bandleader known for his work with his 18-piece ensemble, Secret Society. Biography Argue was born in Vancouver, British Columbia. He studied at McGill University in Montreal from 1993–1998, and in 2000 he moved to the U.S. to study composition at New England Conservatory of Music with jazz composer Bob Brookmeyer. Following his studies at New England Conservatory, Argue moved to Brooklyn in 2003. Secret Society In 2005, Argue founded Darcy James Argue's Secret Society, an 18-piece big band. Molly Joyce is a composer, performer, and recording artist. She is currently an adjunct faculty member in composition at New York University. Early life and education Molly Joyce was born in 1992 in Pittsburgh, PA. She started her instrumental music education on the violin. After a car accident permanently damaged her left hand at the age of 7, she began playing the cello by using her left hand for the bow and right hand on the fingerboard. Jasper String Quartet
The Jasper String Quartet is a professional string quartet based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Currently the Ensemble in Residence at Temple University's Center for Gifted Young Musicians, the quartet was previously the Quartet in Residence at Oberlin Conservatory (from 2010–2012). Amir ElSaffar (born 1977 in Chicago, Illinois) is an American jazz trumpeter and vocalist. His compositions combine jazz, classical, and traditional Arabic music. Biography ElSaffar was born in Chicago, Illinois, in 1977. His mother, Ruth Anthony El Saffar, an American, was a Cervantes scholar and Jungian analyst. His father, Zuhair El Saffar, is an Iraqi immigrant and physicist. He studied classical music at Depaul University in Chicago. In 2001, he won the Carmine Caruso Jazz Trumpet Competition and the International Trumpet Guild Jazz Improvisation Competition.
