''New Age of Earth'' is a solo album by Manuel Göttsching. While originally released under Göttsching's name and Ash Ra Tempel in 1976, the releases that followed in 1977 and onward were under the name Ashra. It was the first album to be released under the name Ashra. Although a solo album by Manuel Göttsching recorded after the dissolution of his band Ash Ra Tempel, Ashra later evolved into a full band. It was released in 1976 on Isadora Records. ''New Age of Earth'' has been listed as one of the Top 25 Most Influential Ambient Albums of All Time. In 2016, Pitchfork (website) ranked it #31 on their list of the 50 Best Ambient Albums of All Time. Ashra (band)
Ashra was a musical ensemble founded by Manuel Göttsching in 1976, initially to facilitate his solo career although other members were included later on. The band's name is an abbreviation of the name of Göttsching's previous band, Ash Ra Tempel. The name was changed as Göttsching's music became less psychedelic and more oriented towards electronica. History Ash Ra Tempel played their last concert in February 1973, their final album '' Starring Rosi'' was recorded later that year (featuring future Ashra member Harald Grosskopf). At the demise of Ash Ra Tempel, Göttsching remained musically inactive until 1975 when he released his debut solo album ''Inventions for Electric Guitar''. Isadora Records
Isadora Records is an independent record label started and operated by Hawksley Workman. The first album released was Workman's own debut, '' For Him and the Girls'', in 1999.LeBlanc, Larry (April 7, 2001). "Canadian singer/songwriter Hawksley Workman lets 'The Wolves' out on his own Isadora label", ''Billboard'' 113 (14): 71–2. The label has been releasing albums online since 2004. The Gibson SG is a solid-body electric guitar model introduced by Gibson in 1961 as the Gibson Les Paul SG. It remains in production today in many variations of the initial design. The SG (where "SG" refers to Solid-Body Guitar) Standard is Gibson's best-selling model of all time. Origins In 1960, Gibson Les Paul sales were significantly lower than in previous years. The following year, the flat-topped, mahogany bodied Les Paul design was given a thinner, more contoured body with a double cutaway. Not only did this make the upper frets more accessible, it was further eased by moving the neck joint outwards by three frets. The simpler body construction significantly reduced production costs, and the new Les Paul, with its slender neck profile and small heel where it joined the body, was advertised as having the "fastest neck in the world". Farfisa (Fabbriche Riunite di Fisarmoniche) is a manufacturer of electronics based in Osimo, Italy, founded in 1946. The company manufactured a series of compact electronic organs in the 1960s and 1970s, including the Compact, FAST, Professional and VIP ranges, and later, a series of other keyboard instruments. They were used by a number of popular musicians including Sam the Sham, Pink Floyd, Sly Stone, Blondie, and the B-52s. The company was formed after three Italian accordion manufacturers combined to form a single company. They began to produce electronic instruments in the late 1950s, and combo organs were introduced in response to similar instruments such as the Vox Continental. The ARP Odyssey is an analog synthesizer introduced by ARP Instruments in 1972. History ARP developed the Odyssey as a direct competitor to the Moog Minimoog and an answer to the demand for more affordable, portable, and less complicated "performance" synthesizers. ARP produced several versions of the Odyssey from 1972 to 1980. In early 2015, Korg reissued the Odyssey in cooperation with the original designer and ARP co-founder, David Friend. Ash Ra Tempel was a West German krautrock group led by guitarist Manuel Göttsching that was active from 1970 to 1976. Their debut album '' Ash Ra Tempel'' was released in 1971. Following the band's demise, Göttsching released music under the name Ashra. History The group was founded by Göttsching, drummer Klaus Schulze, and bassist Hartmut Enke in 1970, following their participation in Conrad Schnitzler's short-lived group Eruption. Prior to Eruption, Schnitzler and Schulze had played together in Tangerine Dream. Manuel Göttsching
Manuel Göttsching (9 September 1952 – 4 December 2022) was a German musician and composer. As the leader of the groups Ash Ra Tempel and Ashra in the 1970s and 80s, as well as a solo artist, he was one of the most influential guitarists of the Krautrock (also known as ''Kosmische Musik'') genre. He also participated in the Cosmic Jokers sessions. His style and technique influenced dozens of artists in the post- Eno ambient and Berlin School of electronic music scenes in the 1980s and 1990s. Early life As a child, Göttsching was exposed to the music of Verdi and Puccini by his mother, who was a fan of opera. He also listened to radio stations run by American and British allied forces.
