Never The Twain (film)
''Never the Twain'' (Czech: ''Velbloud uchem jehly'') is a 1926 Czech silent comedy film directed by Karel Lamač and starring Jan W. Speerger, Betty Kysilková and Anny Ondra. It is based on a play by František Langer. The son of a wealth industrialist marries the daughter of a beggar.Bock & Bergedler p.271 The film's sets were designed by the art director Artur Berger. Karel Lamač
Karel Lamač (27 January 1897 – 2 August 1952) was a Czech film director, actor, screenwriter, producer and singer. He directed more than 100 films in Czechoslovakia, Austria, Germany, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom. Life Lamač was born 27 January 1897 in Prague, Austria-Hungary. His parents were Karel Lamač sr. (1863–1938), opera singer and a pharmacist, and Františka Lamačová (née Prusíková, 1860–1949). In his childhood Lamač was interested in pharmacy, electrical engineering, stage magic and acting. Before WWI he went to apprentice in camera manufacturer company Ernemann in Dresden. During the war he was a combat cameraman. After the war he became a technical director of film laboratory in Excelsiorfilm. He started working in movies in 1918, first as an actor, later as a writer and a director. ''Camel Through the Eye of a Needle'' ( cs, Velbloud uchem jehly) is a 1936 Czech comedy film directed by and starring Hugo Haas. The title is an allusion to the "eye of a needle" aphorism. It's a second movie adaptation of the play by František Langer after the 1926 film ''Never the Twain''. Plot Alík, son of a wealthy chocolate factory owner Adolf Vilím, is set to marry Nina Štěpánková from a wealthy family. But Alík is not interested in Nina. Oldřich Nový
Oldřich Nový (7 August 1899, in Prague – 15 March 1983, in Prague) was a Czech film and theatre actor, director, composer, dramaturg and singer. He is considered one of the greatest actors of the Czech cinema in the first half of the 20th century. Biography His father Antonín Nový, a member of the Prague Fire Brigade, wanted him to become a typographer, but Oldřich showed passion for theatre from a young age. He was supported by his uncle Miloš Nový, a well-known actor of the National Theatre in Prague.
