Never Say Quit
''Never Say Quit'' is a lost 1919 American silent comedy film directed by Edward Dillon. It was produced and distributed by the Fox Film Corporation. Plot As described in a film magazine, Reginald Jones (Walsh) is a jinx and is always getting stung. One of his stunts is to butt in when he sees a woman being ill-treated, and in one adventure is decoyed into a badger game. As a consequence, he loses a fortune when he is unable to attend the funeral of an aunt. He goes to sea on a schooner and the passengers include a rich man and his daughter, who are treasure seekers. The captain is rough and pulls a stunt to get the rich man into his power. Reginald comes to their aid, but it's a tough situation until American sailors from submarine chaser S.C. 143 come to the rescue, jumping the railing and knocking out the villainous crew. Edward Dillon (actor)
Edward Dillon ( or 1879 – July 11, 1933) was an American actor, director and screenwriter of the silent era. He performed in more than 320 films between 1905 and 1932 and also directed 134 productions between 1913 and 1926. He was a native of New York City. Dillon's work on Broadway included acting in ''Prince Otto'' (1900), ''Francesca da Rimini'' (1901), ''The Taming of the Shrew'' (1905), and ''The Ranger'' (1907). He left the stage to begin acting in films in 1908, working under D. W. Griffith at Biograph. He was Mary Pickford's first leading man, and he was instrumental in Fay Tincher's developing into a star. Dillon died on July 11, 1933, at the age of 60 in Hollywood, California from a heart attack. His brother John T. Dillon was also an actor. 1937 Fox Vault Fire
The 1937 Fox vault fire was a major fire that broke out in a 20th Century-Fox film-storage facility in Little Ferry, New Jersey, United States, on July 9, 1937. Flammable nitrate film had previously contributed to several fires in film-industry laboratories, studios, and vaults, although the precise causes were often unknown. In Little Ferry, gases produced by decaying film, combined with high temperatures and inadequate ventilation, resulted in spontaneous combustion. One death and two injuries resulted from the fire, which also destroyed all the archived film in the vaults, resulting in the loss of most of the silent films produced by the Fox Film Corporation before 1932. Also destroyed were negatives from Educational Pictures to Belarusfilm (with which Fox was then affiliated) and films of several other studios.
