Never (Past Tense)
"Never (Past Tense)" is a 2003 song by the Roc Project. The original recording features the group's lead vocalist Tina Novak, but due to Ray Roc and Novak being signed to different record labels, Australian vocalist Tina Arena was recruited to re-sing the vocals for the single release. Later, with record label issues cleared up, Novak appeared as the vocalist on all tracks of the Roc Project's first album, released in early 2003, but the album also included the version of "Never (Past Tense)" with Arena's vocals. This version also appeared on Arena's album ''Vous êtes toujours là''. The single is the only recording for Tina Arena and the Roc Project. It reached the top 5 of the U.S. ''Billboard'' Dance/Club Play chart and was the second number-one single on the Hot Dance Airplay on October 4, 2003 (at a time when this chart was unpublished). Roc Project
The Roc Project is an American electronica act, composed of the New York City-based DJ Ray Roc and, most often, the vocalist Tina Novak. Their debut single, "Never (Past Tense)" was released in 2003. However, because of difficulty getting the song released due to Novak and Roc being signed to different record labels, Ray Roc decided to recruit the Australian singer Tina Arena to sing Novak's vocals instead. ''Vous êtes toujours là'' is the first live album by Australian singer Tina Arena released in 2003 primarily in French-speaking Europe. It includes the studio duet with Jay, "Je te retrouve un peu" which was the only single released from the album in France. The bonus track "Never (Past Tense)" was released internationally and reached number one on the US Billboard Dance Airplay chart. The title of the album is an extrapolation on the title of single " Tu es toujours là", featured on the French version of previous album '' Just Me''. The latter means "You're always there" in the singular and is aimed at a loved one, while the former has the same meaning in the plural, implying the singer addresses a group of people, in this case her fans, thanking them for their support. The 13 live tracks featured on the record were recorded at Paris' L'Olympia concert hall, however they do not appear on the album in the order they were performed on stage. Dance/Mix Show Airplay (formerly Hot Dance Airplay) is a monitored electronic dance music radio chart that is published weekly by ''Billboard'' magazine. History The chart came about as a result of the small but influential impact of electronic dance music on the radio in the United States and the stations that program it. Debuting as Hot Dance Radio Airplay in the issue dated October 25, 2003, it initially ranked the 25 most-played songs over eight radio stations playing mainly dance music and monitored by Nielsen BDS.
