Nevada Wolf Pack Baseball
The Nevada Wolf Pack baseball team is a varsity intercollegiate athletic team of the University of Nevada, Reno in Reno, Nevada, United States. The team is a member of the Mountain West Conference, which is part of the NCAA Division I. Nevada's first baseball team was fielded in 1957. The team plays its home games at William Peccole Park in Reno, Nevada. The Wolf Pack are coached by Jake McKinley. Mountain West Conference
The Mountain West Conference (MW) is one of the collegiate athletic conferences affiliated with the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) (formerly I-A). The MW officially began operations on January 4, 1999. Geographically, the MW covers a broad expanse of the Western United States, with member schools located in California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming. Craig Thompson has served as Commissioner of the MW since October 15, 1998; Gloria Nevarez will take over the post on January 1, 2023 after Thompson's retirement. Bill Ireland
Willis Ireland (April 29, 1927 – July 31, 2007) was an American college football and baseball coach in Nevada. He was the first head coach of the UNLV Rebels football team, UNLV athletic director and founder of the Battle for the Fremont Cannon. Additionally, he was head baseball coach at the University of Nevada, Reno. Ireland was born in remote McGill, Nevada, east of Reno, Nevada. As the coach of the 1966 Wolf Pack baseball team, he managed Fred Dallimore, who later coached the UNLV baseball team, and is the father of former San Francisco Giants player Brian Dallimore. In 1967 Chub Drakulich hired Ireland to start the UNLV football program. During their inaugural 1968 season, the Rebels were undefeated until the last game of the season. The following is a list of schools that participate in NCAA Division I baseball. In the 2022 season, 301 Division I schools competed. These teams compete to go to the 64-team Division I baseball tournament and then to Omaha, Nebraska, and Charles Schwab Field, for the eight-team Men's College World Series (MCWS). Conference affiliations are current for the coming 2023 NCAA baseball season. Years of conference changes, indicated in footnotes, reflect baseball seasons, which take place in the calendar year after a conference change takes effect. He played most of his career as a center fielder for six seasons in Major League Baseball, from to . Braden Alec Shipley (born February 22, 1992) is an American professional baseball pitcher who is a free agent. Shipley attended the University of Nevada, Reno, where he played for the Nevada Wolf Pack baseball team. Prior to that, he attended North Medford High School in Medford, Oregon, and played for the school's baseball team. The Arizona Diamondbacks selected him with the 15th pick in the 2013 MLB draft, and he made his MLB debut in 2016. Early life Shipley grew up in Medford, Oregon with his parents and two siblings. Konrad Schmidt
Konrad Albert Schmidt (born August 2, 1984) is a former professional baseball catcher who played for the Arizona Diamondbacks of Major League Baseball (MLB) in 2010 and 2012. Career Schmidt attended Petaluma High School in Petaluma, California. He attended Santa Rosa Junior College after high school. While at SRJC, the Bearcubs won a CA Juco State Championship. He then went to the University of Arizona, where he played for the Arizona Wildcats baseball team, but transferred to the University of Nevada, Reno, where he played for the Nevada Wolf Pack baseball team. Darrell Rasner
Darrell Wayne Rasner, Jr. (born January 13, 1981) is an American former professional baseball pitcher. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Washington Nationals and New York Yankees and in Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) for the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles. Career Amateur career Rasner attended the University of Nevada, Reno, where he played college baseball for the Nevada Wolf Pack. Christian Michael Prieto (born August 24, 1972) is a former professional baseball player who played one season in Major League Baseball for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in . Prieto attended Carmel High School, and the University of Nevada. Prieto is currently the first base coach for the Tampa Bay Rays. Pete Padgett
Peter L. "Pete" Padgett (born June 15, 1954) is an American high school basketball coach. He is best known, however, for his playing career between 1972–73 and 1975–76 while on the Nevada Wolf Pack men's basketball team. Playing career Pete Padgett played for his father, Jim Padgett, the head coach at Nevada. Padgett, who is , played the power forward position and became one of the most statistically accomplished players in school history. Padgett was selected to the all-conference second team during his freshman year, then was subsequently picked as a first team all-conference member for his final three seasons. Padgett led the West Coast Athletic Conference in rebounding all four seasons and finished his career with 1,464 total, a sum good enough to place him in the top ten all-time in the NCAA's modern era. Lyle Stefan Overbay (born January 28, 1977) is an American former professional baseball first baseman.
