Nevada State Controller
The Nevada State Controller is a constitutional officer in the executive branch of government of the U.S. state of Nevada. Twenty-two individuals have held the office of State Controller since statehood. The incumbent is Andy Matthews, a Republican. Powers and duties The State Controller is the chief fiscal officer of the state of Nevada and is responsible for administering the state’s accounting system, registering vendors, settling all claims against the state and collecting debts owed to the state. Andy Matthews
Andrew Thomas Matthews (born 1978) is an American politician serving as the 23rd Controller of Nevada since 2023. A member of the Republican Party, he previously served as a member of the Nevada Assembly representing Nevada's 37th district. Education and career A graduate of Boston University, Matthews briefly worked as a sports writer before entering politics in 2005 as a campaign worker in New Jersey. Matthews has worked for the conservative Nevada Policy Research Institute since 2007, starting as the communications director and ultimately becoming president. He was elected to the Nevada Assembly in 2020 after defeating incumbent Democrat Shea Backus, thus flipping the seat from Democratic to Republican. Silver Party
The Silver Party was a political party in the United States active from 1892 until 1911 and most successful in Nevada which supported a platform of bimetallism and free silver. In 1892, several Silver Party candidates were elected to Nevada public offices. The party's success continued throughout the decade, culminating in the election of Governors John E. Jones and Reinhold Sadler. Nevada was the only state to elect both Senators and Congressional representatives from the Silver Party. Nationally, the Silver Party aligned with the Populist Party and to a lesser extent with the Silver Republican Party.
