Neustrashimy-class Frigate
The ''Neustrashimy'' class (russian: Неустрашимый, alternate English spelling ''Neustrashimyy''), Soviet designation Project 11540 ''Yastreb'' (hawk), is a series of large frigates built for the Soviet Navy and currently in service with the Russian Navy. Seven ships were planned for the Soviet Navy, but the fall of the Soviet Union disrupted those plans. Two ships were completed, both currently in active service with the Russian Baltic Fleet. Design and construction The class was designed as a general purpose anti-submarine warfare (ASW) frigate to follow on from the s. The ship is equipped with a newly designed Zvezda-1 integrated sonar system (with NATO reporting name Ox Tail) as its primary ASW sensor. Yantar Shipyard (russian: Прибалтийский судостроительный завод «Янтарь») is a Russian shipbuilding company based in Kaliningrad, Russia. Yantar Shipyard builds military ships, including antisubmarine and patrol craft, as well as civil vessels such as fishing trawlers and seiners. It is a part of the United Shipbuilding Corporation. Before 1945, it was the Königsberg unit of the German Schichau-Werke shipbuilding company. The shipyard's facilities allow it to construct vessels of up to 20,000 tonnes DWT. Frigate
A frigate () is a type of warship. In different eras, the roles and capabilities of ships classified as frigates have varied somewhat. The name frigate in the 17th to early 18th centuries was given to any full-rigged ship built for speed and maneuverability, intended to be used in scouting, escort and patrol roles. The term was applied loosely to ships varying greatly in design. In the second quarter of the 18th century, the 'true frigate' was developed in France. This type of vessel was characterised by possessing only one armed deck, with an unarmed deck below it used for berthing the crew. Late in the 19th century (British and French prototypes were constructed in 1858), armoured frigates were developed as powerful ironclad warships, the term frigate was used because of their single gun deck. Tuman (Soviet Patrol Boat)
''Tuman'' (russian: Туман, meaning ''Mist'') was a Soviet patrol boat that engaged a battle with German destroyers during World War II, fought in Arctic waters of the Barents Sea in 1941. Ship history ''Tuman'' was built in 1931 in the Free City of Danzig (now Gdańsk) as a seagoing fishing trawler, with a displacement of 1,218 tons, a length of and width of , a speed of , and a range of . On October 19, 1939, just before the commencement of the Soviet-Finnish War, the trawler was called into the navy as DC-10 (Patrol Ship Number 10). In a list dated March 4, 1940, it is listed in the category of escort ships.
