Network Italy
Network Italy (''Rete Italia'') is a Christian-democratic association connected to Popular Alternative (AP), a political party in Italy, and earlier to The People of Freedom. Most of its members, including its long-time leader Roberto Formigoni, are members of the Catholic lay movement Communion and Liberation (CL). History The political involvement of large chunks of CL dates back to the Seventies. In 1975 Formigoni organised the Popular Movement (MP) as a faction within Christian Democracy (DC). In January 1994, when the DC was dissolved, its members joined the Italian People's Party (PPI) and, a year later, they founded the United Christian Democrats (CDU), along with Rocco Buttiglione. Formigoni, who had been elected President of Lombardy in April 1995 thanks to the support of Silvio Berlusconi's Forza Italia (FI), was appointed president of the CDU at the party's founding congress in July. Christian Democracy
Christian democracy (sometimes named Centrist democracy) is a political ideology that emerged in 19th-century Europe under the influence of Catholic social teaching and neo-Calvinism. It was conceived as a combination of modern democratic ideas and traditional Christian values, incorporating social justice and the social teachings espoused by the Catholic, Lutheran, Reformed, Pentecostal, and other denominational traditions of Christianity in various parts of the world. Christian Democrats for Freedom ( it, Cristiani Democratici per la Libertà, CDL) was a small christian-democratic political party in Italy. History The party was founded following a split from the United Christian Democrats of Rocco Buttiglione, who intended to abandon the centre-right alliance to join the Democratic Union for the Republic, conceived by Francesco Cossiga. The political line pursued by Buttiglione, however, was harshly opposed by leading members of the CDU: the Lombard president Roberto Formigoni and the Apulian exponent Raffaele Fitto. On 4 April 1998 the assembly of centrists was held in Rome, promoted by Fitto and Formigoni. It was on this occasion that Fitto and Formigoni announced the birth of the CdL. Adriano Paroli (born 30 March 1962) is an Italian politician and lawyer, former Mayor of Brescia from 2008 to 2013. Biography Graduated in Law at the University of Milan, Paroli joined Communion and Liberation when he was very young. Gian Carlo Abelli (11 May 1941 – 24 January 2016) was an Italian politician. Born in Broni, he was a long-time Christian Democrat. He became leader of Forza Italia's group in the regional assembly of Lombardy in 2005.
