Netherlands Men's National Ice Hockey Team
The Netherlands men's national ice hockey team is the national men's ice hockey of the Netherlands. The Netherlands are currently ranked 24th in the IIHF World Ranking and currently compete in IIHF World Championship Division II. History The Netherlands competed in the 1980 Olympic ice hockey competition. They then competed in Pool A of the 1981 World Ice Hockey Championships. In the 1980 Winter Olympics, The Netherlands, competed in the Red division group, and had a record of 1–3–1. They lost to Canada (10–1), they lost to the Soviet Union (17–4), they tied Japan (3–3), they beat Poland (5–3), and they lost to Finland (10–3). One year later, the team returned to the top division in the 1981 World Ice Hockey Championships. Netherlands Ice Hockey Association
IJshockey Nederland (IJNL) is the official governing body of ice hockey in the Netherlands. It was founded as the Nederlandse IJshockey Bond (NIJB; 'Netherlands Ice Hockey Association') in 1933 as a three team league with The Hague, Amsterdam and Tilburg. It joined the International Ice Hockey Federation on 20 January 1935. In 1946, it created the Eredivisie. The organisation’s name was changed from NIJB to IJNL in 2017. It is now the governing body for four divisions: The North Sea Cup (formerly known as the Eredivisie ( 'Premier league'); professional); the Eerste Divisie ('First Division;' amateur); and the 2nd and 3rd divisions (recreational). John Martin de Bruyn (born February 3, 1956) is a former Dutch-Canadian ice hockey goaltender. He played for the Netherlands men's national ice hockey team at the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, and the following year he competed for the Netherlands at the 1981 World Ice Hockey Championships. The 2023 IIHF World Championship Division I was an international ice hockey tournament run by the International Ice Hockey Federation. The Group A tournament was held in Nottingham, United Kingdom from 29 April to 5 May and the Group B tournament in Tallinn, Estonia from 23 to 29 April 2023. In Group A, Great Britain and Poland gained promotion to the Top Division while Lithuania finished last and was relegated. 2022 IIHF World Championship Division II
The 2022 IIHF World Championship Division II was an international ice hockey tournament run by the International Ice Hockey Federation. The Group A tournament was held in Zagreb, Croatia from 25 to 30 April and the Group B tournament in Reykjavík, Iceland from 18 to 23 April 2022. After the tournament was cancelled the two previous years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all teams stayed put in their respective groups. China won Group A and got promoted to Division IB, while Iceland won Group B and got promoted to Group A. In order to fill each group of the World Championships back to their normal amount of teams, the IIHF made the decision following the tournament not to relegate Israel or Mexico, who finished last in Groups A and B respectively, but instead to promote the Netherlands and Georgia, the runners-up of each group. The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF; french: Fédération internationale de hockey sur glace; german: Internationale Eishockey-Föderation) is a worldwide governing body for ice hockey. It is based in Zurich, Switzerland, and has 83 member countries. The IIHF maintains the IIHF World Ranking based on international ice hockey tournaments. Rules of play for IIHF events differ from hockey in North America and the rules of the National Hockey League (NHL). Decisions of the IIHF can be appealed through the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne, Switzerland. The IIHF maintains its own hall of fame for international ice hockey.
