The Netherlands competed at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Originally scheduled to take place from 24 July to 9 August 2020, the Games were postponed to 23 July to 8 August 2021, because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Since the nation's official debut in 1900, Dutch athletes have competed at every edition of the Summer Olympic Games, with the exception of the 1904 Summer Olympics in St. Louis and 1956 Summer Olympics in Melbourne, which the Netherlands boycotted because of the Soviet invasion of Hungary. The Dutch Olympic Committee*Dutch Sports Federation, ( nl, Nederlands Olympisch Comité*Nederlandse Sport Federatie) generally abbreviated NOC*NSF, is the overall coordinating Dutch sports organization that also functions as the Dutch National Olympic Committee and National Paralympic Committee. Koen Metsemakers
Koen Metsemakers (born 30 April 1992) is a Dutch representative rower. He is an Olympian and an Olympic and world champion. His world championship title was in the men's quad scull won at the 2019 World Rowing Championships. In the Dutch men's quad scull at Tokyo 2020 he won an Olympic gold medal and set a new world's best time for that event. International representative rowing Metsemakers Dutch representative debut came in 2016 when he raced in a double-scull at the World Rowing Cup III. The following year he secured a seat in the Dutch quad-scull and raced in that boat at all three World Rowing Cups, the European Championships and the 2017 World Rowing Championships in Sarasota, Florida where they finished in overall fourth place. Athletics at the 2020 Summer Olympics were held during the last ten days of the Games. They were due to be held from 31 July – 9 August 2020, at the Olympic Stadium in Tokyo, Japan. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the games were postponed to 2021, with the track and field events set for 30 July – 8 August. The sport of athletics at these Games was split into three distinct sets of events: track and field events, remaining in Tokyo, and road running events and racewalking events, moved to Sapporo. A total of 48 events were held, one more than in 2016, with the addition of a mixed relay event. Sailing competitions at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo took place from 25 July to 4 August 2021 at the Enoshima Yacht Harbor in Enoshima. Kiran Badloe
Kiran Badloe (born 13 September 1994) is a Dutch windsurfer. He won the gold medal in the men's event at the 2019 RS:X World Championships and 2020 RS:X World Championships. In October 2020, he competed at the iQFoil International Games held at Campione, Lake Garda. At the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan, he won gold for the Netherlands in windsurfing. After his Olympic win, Badloe garnered media attention for the distinctive "blue colored arrow haircut" he sported during the competition. The men's BMX racing competition at the 2020 Summer Olympics took place on 29 and 30 July 2021 at the Ariake Urban Sports Park. 24 cyclists from 17 nations competed in the event. Niek Kimmann (born 20 May 1996 in Lutten) is a Dutch BMX racing cyclist. Kimmann is the reigning Olympic Champion BMX Racing, a three-time World Champion, one-time European Champion, three-time Dutch Champion, and two-time World Cup Supercross winner. He is also a two-time junior World Champion. Career Kimmann, born in Lutten., started BMXing at age seven, after attending a classmate's BMX training. The women's road time trial event at the 2020 Summer Olympics took place on 28 July 2021 around the Fuji Speedway in Shizuoka Prefecture. 25 cyclists from 20 nations competed in the event. The race was won by Annemiek van Vleuten of Netherlands. Van Vleuten set the fastest times at both intermediate time checks before setting the only time under 31 minutes. She won by 56 seconds over the silver medalist, Marlen Reusser of Switzerland. Reusser set the fourth and fifth fastest times at the first two time checks, respectively. Her final split allowed her to move into second, becoming the only rider within a minute of van Vleuten's time. The cycling competitions of the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo featured 22 events in five disciplines. Cycling competitions had been contested in every Summer Olympics programme since the first modern Olympiad in 1896 alongside athletics, artistic gymnastics, fencing and swimming. Fourteen medal events were contested by 526 athletes (263 men and women each). Competition format The rowing programme featured a total of fourteen events, seven each for both men and women in identical boat classes.
