Netherlands Ice Hockey Association
IJshockey Nederland (IJNL) is the official governing body of ice hockey in the Netherlands. It was founded as the Nederlandse IJshockey Bond (NIJB; 'Netherlands Ice Hockey Association') in 1933 as a three team league with The Hague, Amsterdam and Tilburg. It joined the International Ice Hockey Federation on 20 January 1935. In 1946, it created the Eredivisie. The organisation’s name was changed from NIJB to IJNL in 2017. It is now the governing body for four divisions: The North Sea Cup (formerly known as the Eredivisie ( 'Premier league'); professional); the Eerste Divisie ('First Division;' amateur); and the 2nd and 3rd divisions (recreational). It also governs the Dutch national men's ice hockey team, the Dutch national women's ice hockey team, the Dutch national men's junior ice hockey team and the Dutch national men's under 18 ice hockey team. Netherlands Women's National Ice Hockey Team
The Netherlands women's national ice hockey team represents the Netherlands in international ice hockey competition, including the International Ice Hockey Federation's (IIHF) Women's World Championship. The women's national team is overseen by Netherlands Ice Hockey Association. In February 2011, the Netherlands were promoted to Division II of the IIHF World Women's Championship. Eredivisie (ice Hockey)
The ''Eredivisie'' ("Premier League") was, during its existence, the only professional ice hockey league in the Netherlands and the highest level of competition organized by the Nederlandse IJshockey Bond (NIJB; English: "Dutch Ice Hockey Federation"). Formed in 1945 and playing continuously since 1964, the league mainly featured Dutch teams, although in some seasons certain Belgian teams competed. The league featured a mix of Dutch, European and overseas players. The winner of the Eredivisie was crowned the Dutch National Champion and represented the Netherlands in the IIHF Continental Cup. Dutch Cup (ice Hockey)
The Dutch Cup, better known in Dutch as the "Beker" or "Bekercompetitie", is the national ice hockey cup in the Netherlands. It was held from 1938 to 1939, and 1971-present. The Dutch Cup is usually an autumn competition that precedes or runs simultaneously with the regular season of the BeNe League, the Dutch and Belgian semi-professional ice hockey league. The format of the Dutch Cup competition is determined before each season and can vary depending on the number of teams competing. In 2011, the format consisted of: * a 16-game preliminary round-robin, followed by * a three-game playoff round-robin among the top four teams in the preliminary round * a one-game final game among the top two teams from the playoff round. Eerste Divisie (ice Hockey)
The Eerste Divisie ('First Division') is the second level ice hockey league in the Netherlands. A semi-professional league, the Erste Divisie is directly below the professional BeNe League. Before the BeNe League was founded by Dutch and Belgian teams in 2015, the Eerste Divisie was the second level below the professional Eredivisie. With the creation of the binational BeNe League, the Eerste Divisie became the highest national ice hockey league in the Netherlands. Several Eerste Divisie teams are the secondary or developmental squads of BeNe League teams and often play out of the same arenas as their BeNe League affiliates.
