Netball New South Wales Blues are a former Australian netball team. Between 2008 and 2014, they represented Netball New South Wales in the Australian Netball League. In 2008 they were founder members of the ANL. Together with Netball New South Wales Waratahs they were one of two teams to represent Netball New South Wales in the ANL. Blues were effectively a New South Wales Swifts third team. Abbey McCulloch
Abbey McCulloch (born 12 February 1990) is an Australian former netball player. Between 2014 and 2018, McCulloch played for New South Wales Swifts. She captained Swifts during the 2017 and 2018 seasons. She previously played for NNSW Waratahs and Queensland Firebirds. Early life, family and education McCulloch is originally from Bowral in the Southern Highlands. Her family later settled in the Sutherland Shire. Her older sister, Kaarle McCulloch, represented Australia at the 2012 Summer Olympics as a cyclist. Abbey and Kaarle both attended Endeavour Sports High School. Between 2008 and 2012 she attended the University of Western Sydney where she gained a Bachelor of Business and Commerce in Sport Management and a Master of Teaching. Netball is a ball sport played on a court by two teams of seven players. It is among a rare number of sports which have been created exclusively for female competitors. The sport is played on indoor and outdoor netball courts and is specifically played in schools. Netball is most popularly played in Commonwealth nations. A common misunderstanding of the sport's origins has resulted in the mistaken belief that netball was created to prevent women from playing basketball. However, the sport is the result of Clara Baer's misinterpretation of its rules. Baer had asked James Naismith, the Canadian inventor of basketball, to send her a copy of the rules, and Baer's errors resulted in what marked the beginning of the development of a separate sport. Briony Akle
Briony Akle is a former Australia netball player and current netball coach. Between 1999 and 2004, Akle played for Sydney Swifts in the Commonwealth Bank Trophy league. Akle was a member of the Sydney Swifts teams that won premierships in 2001 and 2004. Since 2017 she has been head coach of New South Wales Swifts, guiding them to the 2019 and 2021 Suncorp Super Netball titles. Maddie Hay (born 11 April 1995) is an Australian netball player in the Suncorp Super Netball league, playing for Giants Netball. Hay grew up playing netball and representing New South Wales and Australia at various underage levels. She was a training partner at Giants Netball in 2018/19, though earned her debut in Round 1 of the 2019 season, briefly coming onto the court to replace an injured player. Ashlee Weir (née Mann) (born 29 April 1988) is an Australian netball player in the ANZ Championship, playing for the New South Wales Swifts. She played in the 2009 ANZ Festival of Stars as Centre after Marianne McCormick got injured during the second half of the game. She has just recently married Kent Weir who is a seasoned cricketer, being selected in the Australian churches team in 2009. A Baulkham Hills (BHSNA) netball junior, Ashlee returned to ANZ Championship action in 2013 after playing for the NSW Swifts in 2009.
