Nepalese Canadians or Nepali Canadians are Canadians with roots in Nepal. Migration history Nepalese are recent immigrants in Canada and their numbers are relatively small. According to the 1991 report on immigration and citizenship, only 125 people indicated Nepal as their country of birth. Aside from immigrants from Nepal itself, there are also Nepali-speaking people from neighboring countries such as India, Burma and Bhutan as well as Nepalese who lived in other countries ( Fiji, Hong Kong, the United Kingdom and the United States) before immigrating to Canada. The majority of Nepalese in Canada migrated in pursuit of better economic opportunities and professional fulfillment. Some who had experienced discrimination in the countries they left were also attracted by the possibility of enjoying political and religious freedom in Canada. Canada 2021 Census
The 2021 Canadian census was a detailed enumeration of the Canadian population with a reference date of May 11, 2021. It follows the 2016 Canadian census, which recorded a population of 35,151,728. The overall response rate was 98%, which is slightly lower than the response rate for the 2016 census. It recorded a population of 36,991,981, a 5.2% increase from 2016. Planning Consultation on census program content was from September 11 to December 8, 2017. The census was conducted by Statistics Canada, and was contactless as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic in Canada. The agency had considered delaying the census until 2022. About 900 supervisors and 31,000 field enumerators were hired to conduct the door-to-door survey of individuals and households who had not completed the census questionnaire by late May or early June. Naresh Bahadur Budhayer (last name also spelled as Budayair) ( ne, नरेश बहादुर बुढाऐर) (born 15 October 1991) is a Nepalese-born Canadian cricketer. He is a right-handed batsman and a right-arm off break bowler. In 2022, he gave up his Nepalese citizenship and switched his nationality to Canadian. Curtis Waters
Abhinav Bastakoti (born December 20, 1999), known by his stage name Curtis Waters, is a Canadian-American musician and songwriter. He is known for his self-produced 2020 debut single " Stunnin'". He is the first Nepal-born musician to attain international success. Early life Waters was born in Kathmandu, Nepal. He moved to India at a young age, before moving to Germany at age four, and then relocating to Calgary, Alberta at age ten. Waters settled in Cary, North Carolina in 2017 at age seventeen. The moves were following his parents' educational dreams—his father now has a Ph.D. in environmental science, while his mother has two master's degrees and specializes in GIS. Manjushree Thapa
Manjushree Thapa (born 1968 in Kathmandu) is a Nepalese–born Canadian essayist, fiction writer, translator and editor. She is one of the first English writer of Nepali descent to be published internationally. '' Forget Kathmandu'' and '' The Tutor of History'' are some of her most well known works. Biography Thapa grew up in Nepal, Canada and the United States. She began to write upon completing her BFA in photography at the Rhode Island School of Design. Her first book was ''Mustang Bhot in Fragments'' (1992). In 2001 she published the novel '' The Tutor of History'', which she had begun as her MFA thesis in the creative writing program at the University of Washington in Seattle, which she attended as a Fulbright scholar. Sudarshan Gautam
Sudarshan Gautam (Nepali: सुदर्शन गौतम) is Canadian mountain climber and actor. He is first person without arms to have reached the summit of Mount Everest without the use of prosthetics. He did this on May 20, 2013. Gautam lost his arms as a result of an accident in his childhood. In 2014, he appeared in the Nepalese movie ''Himmatwali''.
