Liagoraceae
Liagoraceae is a family of red algae (Rhodophyta) in the order Nemaliales. The type genus is ''Liagora'' . It was originally called ''Helminthocladiaceae'' by J.Agardh in 1851, but P. Silva in 1980 stated that this was predated by Liagoraceae which was published in 1843. Various authors over several years, had tried to form tribes within the family, but it was found (each time) that the family is not able to be divided naturally. As the morphological character analyses show too much variation. The family was found to be polyphyletic (having a mixed evolutionary origin) based on analyses of rbcL enzymes. The 2 genera of ''Yamadaella'' and ''Liagoropsis'', which were previously placed in the Dermonemataceae family, were found to have independent lineages and could be recognized as two new families ''Yamadaellaceae'' and ''Liagoropsidaceae''. Scinaiaceae
Scinaiaceae is a family of red algae ( Rhodophyta) in the order Nemaliales. Huisman had placed former members of Galaxauraceae family, that were lacking lime into his new family of Scinaiaceae. Distribution The family has cosmopolitan distribution. Including being found in India, Arabian Sea, Brazil, North America (including Alaska, British Columbia, Washington, and Oregon) Chile, New Zealand (Tasmania and Campbell Island) and the Falkland Islands. Galaxauraceae is a family of red algae (Rhodophyta) in the order Nemaliales. The type genus is ''Galaxaura''. The name ''Galaxauraceae'' was first published by Russian botanist Paulus Horaninow (1796-1865) in 1843. The family has cosmopolitan distribution. Red Algae
Red algae, or Rhodophyta (, ; ), are one of the oldest groups of eukaryotic algae. The Rhodophyta also comprises one of the largest phyla of algae, containing over 7,000 currently recognized species with taxonomic revisions ongoing. The majority of species (6,793) are found in the Florideophyceae (class), and mostly consist of multicellular, marine algae, including many notable seaweeds. Red algae are abundant in marine habitats but relatively rare in freshwaters. Approximately 5% of red algae species occur in freshwater environments, with greater concentrations found in warmer areas. Except for two coastal cave dwelling species in the asexual class Cyanidiophyceae, there are no terrestrial species, which may be due to an evolutionary bottleneck in which the last common ancestor lost about 25% of its core genes and much of its evolutionary plasticity. AlgaeBase is a global species database of information on all groups of algae, both marine and freshwater, as well as sea-grass. History AlgaeBase began in March 1996, founded by Michael Guiry.
