Nelson Araujo
Nelson Araujo (born October 24, 1987) is an American politician. He served as a Democratic member of the Nevada Assembly. Early life Araujo was born in Las Vegas, Nevada in 1987. His parents were refugees from the Salvadoran Civil War. He was raised by his mother, who worked as a housekeeper in a hotel. Araujo earned a B.A. and M.P.A. from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). Career Araujo started working for Senator Harry Reid in 2007. He subsequently worked for the United Way of Southern Nevada. Araujo has served as a member of the Nevada Assembly since 2015. Araujo announced that he is seeking the office of Nevada Secretary of State in 2018. Araujo said in a statement he's running because he wants to ensure that Nevadans have a voting system "that protects the fundamental right of every eligible voter to have their vote counted, no matter who they are or what they believe." Peggy Pierce
Margaret Comstock "Peggy" Pierce (August 14, 1954 - October 10, 2013) was an American politician. Born in Milton, Massachusetts, on August 14, 1954, Pierce went to the City College of San Francisco and worked in community liaison/culinary union. She lived in Las Vegas, Nevada. Pierce served as Democratic member of the Nevada Assembly, from 2002 until 2013. Pierce was diagnosed with cancer in 2003 and died from it in 2013. Personal life Pierce was born in Milton, Massachusetts, the seventh of eight children and the daughter of an Episcopal priest active in the civil rights movement. She lived in San Francisco before venturing to Nevada in 1988 with dreams of becoming a professional singer. She took food service and hotel jobs in Las Vegas and ascended the ranks of the union. Barbara Katherine Cegavske (née Jewson; born August 27, 1951) is an American businesswoman and politician, who is the former Secretary of State of Nevada from 2015 to 2023. She was a Republican member of the Nevada Senate, representing Clark County District 8map from 2002 to 2014. Previously, she served in the Nevada Assembly from 1996 to 2001. According to her legislative biography, she was educated at Mayo High School in Rochester, Minnesota, and at Clark County Community College (now known as the College of Southern Nevada) in Las Vegas. With her husband, Tim, she was a 7-11 convenience store franchisee for thirteen years before seeking political office.
