Neilston Juniors F.C.
Neilston Football Club are a Scottish football club based in Neilston, East Renfrewshire who currently play in the . History The club was formed on Monday 4 June 1945 when a public meeting was held in the old wooden clubhouse at Brig O’Lea. Their first league game took place on Saturday 11 August 1945. It was an away match against Riccarton Bluebell and resulted in a 4–4 draw. Just two years after their formation, the club finished the 1946–47 season as the Western League North champions and also won the Western League Cup and the Renfrewshire Cup. Renfrew District Council took over Brig O’Lea Stadium in the early 1960s and built a new clubhouse and installed floodlights for season 1964–65. The new look stadium was opened on Monday 21 December 1964 when Neilston played Greenock Morton under the new floodlights. Neilston
Neilston ( sco, Neilstoun, gd, Baile Nèill, ) is a village and parish in East Renfrewshire in the west central Lowlands of Scotland. It is in the Levern Valley, southwest of Barrhead, south of Paisley, and south-southwest of Renfrew, at the southwestern fringe of the Greater Glasgow conurbation. Neilston is a dormitory village with a resident population of just over 5,000 people. Neilston is mentioned in documents from the 12th century, when the feudal lord Robert de Croc, endowed a chapel to Paisley Abbey to the North. Neilston Parish Church—a Category B listed building—is said to be on the site of this original chapel and has been at the centre of the community since 1163. Little remains of the original structure. The league sits at levels 6–10 on the Scottish football league system, acting as a feeder to the Lowland Football League. Dixie Deans
John Kelly "Dixie" Deans (born 30 July 1946) is a Scottish retired footballer. He played as a centre forward in the 1960s and 1970s, primarily for Motherwell and Celtic, and was a prolific goal-scorer. Deans played in two international matches for Scotland, both in 1974. He was nicknamed "Dixie" in honour of Everton and England centre-forward Dixie Dean. Career Deans joined Motherwell from Neilston Juniors in 1965 and spent six seasons with the Fir Park side. He signed for Celtic in a £17,500 deal on 31 October 1971 but was unable to play for Celtic immediately as he was, at the time, serving a six-match ban; during this period he spent his free time working in the Paisley office of the ''Evening Times''.
