Neil Young Archives
The Neil Young Archives is a longtime project by singer-songwriter Neil Young. It started as a series of archival releases featuring previously released as well as unreleased studio and live recordings. It eventually developed into a website featuring almost the whole of Young's recording output throughout his career, available for streaming in high resolution audio format. The project has been long in the making – work began in the late 1980s. Throughout its development, Young himself has made several statements about the material included, release dates, and marketing that have proven false as the project was modified for new multimedia formats and expanded upon to accommodate new releases or other relevant material. Neil Young
Neil Percival Young (born November 12, 1945) is a Canadian-American singer and songwriter. After embarking on a music career in Winnipeg in the 1960s, Young moved to Los Angeles, joining Buffalo Springfield with Stephen Stills, Richie Furay and others. Since the beginning of his solo career with his backing band Crazy Horse (band), Crazy Horse, he has released many critically acclaimed and important albums, such as ''Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere'', ''After the Gold Rush'', ''Harvest (Neil Young album), Harvest'', ''On the Beach (Neil Young album), On the Beach'' and ''Rust Never Sleeps''. The Stray Gators
The Stray Gators was the name given by Neil Young to his supporting musicians from 1971 to 1973 and who backed him on the albums ''Harvest'' (1972) and ''Time Fades Away'' (1973). It consisted of Jack Nitzsche (piano), Ben Keith (steel guitar), Tim Drummond (bass) and Kenny Buttrey (drums); the latter replaced during the ''Time Fades Away'' tour by Johnny Barbata. Former Crazy Horse rhythm guitarist Danny Whitten briefly joined the group in 1972 but was fired by Young due to his poor performance during tour rehearsals, precipitating his death from an accidental overdose immediately thereafter. ''Chrome Dreams II'' is the 28th studio album by Canadian-American musician Neil Young. The album was released on October 23, 2007 as a double LP and as a single CD. The album name references ''Chrome Dreams'', a legendary Neil Young album from 1977 that had originally been scheduled for release but was shelved in favor of ''American Stars 'N Bars''. The album debuted on the U.S. ''Billboard'' 200 chart at number 11, selling about 54,000 copies in its first week. In addition, the song "No Hidden Path" was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Solo Rock Vocal Performance at the 51st Grammy Awards, 2009. Brian Ahern, CM (born 1945 in Halifax, Nova Scotia) is a Canadian record producer and guitarist. He has produced albums for a wide variety of artists, including 12 albums for Anne Murray; 11 albums for Emmylou Harris (to whom he was also married for seven years); he also produced discs for Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, George Jones, Roy Orbison, Glen Campbell, Don Williams, Jesse Winchester, and Linda Ronstadt. Ahern was entered into the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame in 2006 in Saint John, New Brunswick. ''Life'' is an album by Canadian musician Neil Young and his American backing band Crazy Horse, and it is Young's last release on the Geffen label. As with their 1979 album ''Rust Never Sleeps'', Young and the Horse performed most of this album's songs live with the exceptions of "Cryin' Eyes" and "We Never Danced" which were recorded in studio. The album was released on July 6, 1987. The first three tracks all handle the topic of world politics, and ponder the role of the United States in the world. "Long Walk Home," for example, empathizes with troops under deployment overseas.
