Neil Murray (footballer)
Neil Andrew Murray (born 21 February 1973 in Bellshill) is a Scottish former footballer. He began his career with Rangers in the early 1990s, and also played for clubs in Switzerland, France, Germany and England. He represented the Scotland Under-21 national team. Early life Murray was educated at Marr College in Troon, South Ayrshire. Career Playing Murray began his career with Rangers, where he won the domestic treble in 1992/93. He left Rangers in 1996, joining Swiss club Sion and winning the Swiss League and Cup double before moving to Lorient in France a year later. He then returned to Scotland for a short spell at Dundee United, before signing for German club Mainz 05. During his two years there, he had a short loan spell in England with Grimsby Town. Murray came back Scotland permanently in 2002, signing for Falkirk before playing his final season in professional football with Ayr United. Bellshill
Bellshill (pronounced "Bells hill") is a town in North Lanarkshire in Scotland, southeast of Glasgow city centre and west of Edinburgh. Other nearby localities are Motherwell to the south, Hamilton, South Lanarkshire, Hamilton to the southwest, Viewpark to the west, Holytown to the east and Coatbridge to the north. The town of Bellshill itself (including the villages of Orbiston and Mossend) has a population of about 20,650. The Scottish League Cup (also known as the Viaplay Cup for sponsorship reasons) is a football competition open to all Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL) clubs. The 1995–96 season was the 99th season of competitive football in Scotland. Scottish Premier Division Summary Rangers won the Premier Division with a record 87 points, finishing four ahead of rivals Celtic. Aberdeen were third with 55 points (on goal difference). Falkirk were relegated after finishing bottom. Partick Thistle were relegated via the play-offs, losing 3–2 on aggregate to Dundee United, who returned to the Premier Division at the first attempt. This was the only occasion on which this short-lived play-off system relegated a team from the Premier Division. Rangers qualified for the European Cup, with Celtic and Aberdeen making it into the UEFA Cup. All three clubs entered at the qualifying round stage.
