Neil Channing
Neil Andrew Channing (born 9 December 1967 in Reading, Berkshire) is an English professional poker player and author based in Maida Vale, London. He is the 2008 Irish Poker Open champion. He is also the Ambassador for Sky Poker. Before turning professional, he worked as a bookmaker at various UK racecourses, and now provides books part-time for various sports betting companies. He has retained a keen interest in betting, and can often be spotted at big events such as the Grand National and the Cheltenham Festival. In March 2008, Channing won the 2008 Irish Poker Open and €801,400 (over $1,200,000) against a field of 667 players. Channing has also enjoyed success on home soil, in particular in the GUKPT. In March 2010, he finished second in GUKPT London for £84,700 before finally capturing his first UK title in the Luton leg of August of the same year. Nikhil Persaud is a professional poker player from London, and he has been playing poker for several years. He started off life as an STT grinder on Ladbrokes Poker, and he now plays online under the alias ‘reraiseallin.’ Persaud participated in a number of televised events, including the 2009 series: ''Late Night Poker''. The November Nine was the name used to refer to the final nine contestants, or final table, at the Main Event of the World Series of Poker (WSOP) from 2008 to 2016. The winner of the WSOP Main Event is considered to be the World Champion of Poker. Prior to 2008, the entire Main Event was played without interruption. Starting in 2008, in an effort to build excitement in the WSOP and to increase ratings for the tape-delayed televised shows, Harrah's Entertainment and ESPN decided to delay the final table until shortly before its scheduled broadcast. The delay would allow ESPN to cover the rest of the tournament leading up to the final table without viewers knowing the winner in advance. James Akenhead (born 6 June 1983 in London, England) is a professional English poker player, sponsored by Genting Poker. and part of the London-based poker group The Hitsquad. He is best known for being a member of the November Nine in 2009. World Series of Poker At the 2008 World Series of Poker, he finished runner-up to Grant Hinkle in Event #2, a $1,500 No Limit Texas hold 'em tournament. He lost the heads-up battle when he managed to provoke Hinkle to put all his chips in with 10 4, an underdog to his AK, only to see the flop come 10 10 4. Richard "Chufty" Ashby (born 1972 in London) is a professional poker player from England. He was given the name 'Chufty' by his friends at University, due to Ashby's frequency of using the term "chuffed". Ashby picked up poker at his local tennis club, as well as playing for pennies with his father. In the mid nineties, he played his first tournament, a £10 Stud tournament. A few years later, he earned entry into the Aussie Millions. After he bust from the first tournament, he put his entire $4,000 bankroll on the line in a cash game and spun it up to $100,000.
