William Neil Carmichael (born 15 April 1961 in Hexham) is an English politician, and former Conservative Party Member of Parliament (MP) for Stroud from 2010 until 2017. In April 2019, Carmichael announced he had left the Conservatives. He subsequently joined Change UK and was an unsuccessful candidate for the party in the East of England constituency at the 2019 European Parliament election. In September 2019, he joined the Liberal Democrats. Earlier activities in politics Carmichael began his political career after being elected to Northumberland County Council in 1989, on which he served for four years. Neil Abercrombie (born June 26, 1938) is an American politician who served as the seventh governor of Hawaii from 2010 to 2014. He is a member of the Democratic Party.
