Neighbourhoods In Riga
Since the first period of Latvian independence, Riga never had an official territorial division of the city that would be smaller than six administrative territorial entities, even though a division of Riga into 47 micro regions ( lv, mikrorajoni) was initiated. The borders of the micro regions only partly coincide with the borders of the districts and suburbs, and common borders were only at an initial stage. Historically, even smaller micro region divisions were used. An example would be Spilve, that consisted of Beķermuiža, Krēmeri, Voleri, Rātsupe and Liela muiža. The fact, that these smaller regions had no officially existing borders often created trouble as the interpretation of them among inhabitants and civil servants were quite different. In 2008, the Riga City Council Development Agency began work on the new Riga regions, according to the new plan — definition of neighbourhoods. Čiekurkalns
Čiekurkalns (german: Schreienbusch) is neighbourhood of Northern District in Riga, the capital of Latvia. It is located on the southwestern shore of Lake Ķīšezers. In April 2014, the new building of the State Revenue Service of Latvia was unveiled at Talejas iela 1 in Čiekurkalns. The building of the railway station of the same name, which serves the Riga–Lugaži Railway along the southern limits of the neighbourhood, stands in the Teika neighbourhood. Zolitūde
Zolitūde () is mainly an apartment house neighbourhood (or microdistrict) located in the western part of Riga, the capital of Latvia. Zolitūde is a centrally planned estate, consisting mostly of prefabricated concrete block Brutalist style homes built in late Soviet times. Construction started in 1984, and was mostly halted in 1991, when Latvia obtained its independence from the USSR. Large parts of the population, as in similar neighbourhoods of Riga, are Russian speaking. Zolitūde had been a mixture of council housing and co-operative flats, but many properties have been privatised since the fall of the Soviet Union. Ziepniekkalns
Ziepniekkalns is a neighborhood of Riga, Latvia. It is located in the Pārdaugava section of Riga close to the city's southern border. Ziepniekkalns is the latest out of all Riga's neighborhoods. It was built in the late 1980s and early 1990s and mostly consists of Soviet-built 10 story apartment buildings. However, there are still many older buildings in Ziepniekkalns constructed in the early 1960s. There is a major contrast between older 3 story buildings and newer 10 story ones. Torņakalns
Torņakalns is a neighbourhood of Riga, Latvia located on the western bank of the Daugava River (neighbourhoods along this shore are collectively known as Pārdaugava). The name Torņakalns (''English: Tower Hill'') derives from a fortified tower built in the Middle Ages close to the Daugava River to alarm the city of Riga in case of emergency and unwelcomed intruders about to cross the river. The tower does not stand nowadays. Overview Torņakalns was an early suburb to Riga, consisting largely of gardens and mansions. Salas, Riga
Salas ('Islands' in Latvian) is a neighbourhood of Riga, the capital of Latvia. Its landmass consists entirely of the islands Zaķusala, Lucavsala, and Kazas sēklis ('Goat Sandbank'). Mūkupurvs is a neighborhood of the city of Riga, the capital city of Latvia and in Pārdaugava, a suburb of Zemgale. Mūkupurva neighborhood is located in the R part of Riga. It borders Beberbekai, Zolitūde and Pleskodāle neighborhoods, as well as Mārupe parish of Mārupe county, which is adjacent to the D part of Mūkupurva neighborhood. The boundaries of the Mūkupurva neighborhood are a line parallel to Beberbeķu line 5, Krotes iela, a line along the residential massif, the city boundary (Babītes iela, Kalnciema iela) and Kārļa Ulmanias gatve. The total area of Mūkupurva neighborhood has a population of 242, and its area 4,515 km2, which is only slightly less than the average area indicator of Riga neighborhoods.
